Teachers have long supplemented their incomes by tutoring. And there’s perhaps never been a better, or easier, time to do it than right now. The reason: China-based online education companies are in an apparent race with each other to hire U.S. teachers who’d like to work from home this summer and, using their webcams, “teach cute kids” the English language — in the marketing parlance of one of those companies, Beijing-based VIPKid.
If you doubt that’s true, you haven’t been looking at the classifieds. Just today, five-year-old VIPKid i — which reportedly raised $200 million in fresh funding last summer at a $1.5 billion valuation — listed openings for thousands of U.S. teachers, from Jacksonville Beach, Florida, to Saint Joseph, Missouri, to Carmel, Indiana.
Its jobs offensive comes just three days after seven-year-old, Beijing-based China Online Education Group, known as 51Talk, did precisely the same thing....

Actually, I think it’s the teachers who are going to be in for a rude awakening.
I disagree. The Chinese will be in for a rude awakening when they realize most of the teachers only know “studies”, as opposed to hard math, physics, and science.
Could anyone come up with a list of radical leftist teachers who could be exported to China? It shouldn’t be limited to just primary and secondary teachers, but as many wacky loony college professors as well.
China *needs* to have gender and race and feminism studies professors! Hell, President Trump should pay them to emigrate!
The Chinese are likely enough to have plenty (with their population, they have pretty much plenty of everyone) of science, math teachers. They are looking for native-speaking English teachers. And they aren’t looking for speakers with noticeable accents, so Ebonics speakers really need not apply.
They want credentialed teachers who know how to follow lesson plans and how to work with kids. Biggest problem I’ve heard is that it’s all based on Beijing time, so the best time to do lessons (when the Chinese kids have free time) is very early in the A.M.

They want teachers who can teach English. They should consider recruiting in Nigeria. Now those people have really impressive diction.
Thanks for mentioning “Beijing Time.” I might do it - I tutor 1:1 already and have some ESL/ Chinese kids and adults. But I am an early morning person. Nevermind.

My nephew and his wife do this after work. They spent several years in China working for the International Schools.
