PLANO (WBAP/KLIF News) — Days after Arlington pulled out of the bid for becoming the site of Amazon’s next headquarters, the City of Plano says it still believes it’s in the running.
Plano Mayor Harry LaRosiliere told WFAA TV’s “Inside Texas Politics” he hasn’t heard otherwise.
“They’ve been pretty hush. The rumors have been out there, so I don’t know,” LaRosiliere said. “We’d love to have them. What mayor wouldn’t want to create so many jobs for their community?”
LaRosiliere, who has been the city’s mayor since 2013, added that even if Plano loses out, he hopes Amazon picks the DFW Metroplex.
“I’d like to think that if it comes to North Texas, it’s good for all of us,” LaRosiliere said. “You see what happened with Toyota. It landed in Plano, but it’s been a net positive from for all of North Texas. Everybody has benefited from it.”
Amazon is expected to decide among its 20 finalists sometime this year. The HQ2 complex is expected to bring whichever city wins the bid roughly 50,000 jobs.
I haven’t heard anything about Pittsburgh getting this despite being in the top 10 on betting sites.
Quite frankly, Pittsburgh couldn’t handle an influx of 50K jobs unless they buy all of our downtown area and rename it “Amazon”. Our traffic would grind to a halt as would our public transportation.
However, we have world class bike trails/lanes!

...obviously a grossly-exaggerated PR statement trying to get more cities to offer more $$ for the HQ
amazon needs (and has) some computer programmers, not all of which would make that much but some yes
amazon needs people to put stuff in boxes, and while these are Amazon’s largest employee skill area...I seriously doubt Amazon pays any of then anything near 100 or 200 grand amazon didn’t get so rich by paying box-packers $150,000
look for about 3 or 4 highly paid jobs (managers) and the rest ....well, decent honest employment YES but not paying anything like six figures, imho ... this opinion may be worth what you paid for it, but only if you’re extremely lucky! smile smile
No Seattle? They can go far in Texas with a smaller salary.
It’s not a warehouse and distribution center, it’s a 2nd headquarters outside of Seattle. There will be well paid managerial, tech and executive jobs. Not hourly floor workers.
It all depends on where they land the HQ.
If they try any of the “trendy” areas of town where tech stuff is setting up there isn’t room for a development of 50,000 jobs and the buildings/campus to go with it.
The rumored Strip District thing, no f’ing way. Not unless they’re going to build the biggest/tallest office building in the city. However pulling the T to the strip would be very easy to do. Same with expansion of the busway.
Since we have no idea what the city/county bid is who’s to say. Suffice to say I would never want to have to park in town on a weekday with 50,000 more people commuting. Or drive through the tunnels at rush hour.

If I lived there, I’d be against it. Too much additional traffic and competition for housing. It’ll create local inflation.
I heard that yes indeed. But why would they need a duplicate headquarters and what would they do with all the new executives ( this isn’t government, after all). Just wondering.
They (Amazon) seem to be obsessed with putting this HQ in a city from what I’ve read, and that Amazon has a thing with people taking public transportation to/from work. When it comes to Pittsburgh, that can only mean that they are selling the downtown area and that Mayor Santa has pretty much told Amazon that they could have most of it for a song (a lot of it is unoccupied anyway as you know). I wouldn’t be surprised if they promised the “perpetually coming soon” high speed train to the airport from downtown :-).
All I know is if they pick downtown Pittsburgh, the outbound part of the Ft Pitt bridge is going to claim lives daily ... I’ve lived here all of my life and I still manage to almost end my life on that bridge from time to time :-).
Overall, I cannot see Amazon coming here for the reasons you stated, but we live in interesting times :-).
If Plano gets it, how much will the bribes...er, incentives cost state and local taxpayers?
We don’t know for a fact what the heck it is, just what Amazon is claiming. Or if Amazon is really serious and this isn’t just an attempt to extort Seattle and/or WA.
I live in Plano and I'm against it, and don't know anyone that really wants it here. We just had Toyota move here, among others, and things really need to settle down for a bit.
Various cities may be in the running to be Amazon’s HQ1 if the tax policies in its current location don’t change.
I sincerely hope Texas is not chosen. A leftist tech industry company relocated in Texas is not a good thing.
It’ll just bring more of the California mentality and help to turn Texas blue. This is a perfect example of a capitalist selling the Rope used to hang them.
It’s their SECOND HEADQUARTERS, not a warehouse! Thus the HQ2 designation.

I’d imagine they’re growing and sick of paying Seattle prices for everything. This gives them leverage in Seattle too, hey you guys we’ll just pack up and move it all to (X) if you don’t back off.
