Rolls-Royce is hiring 100 this year at its Prince George County plant (Virginia)

Rolls-Royce North America is adding about 100 jobs at its Prince George County manufacturing plant this year.

Employment at the Crosspointe factory should reach 400 or more by the end of the year as it adds production to meet demand in the aircraft industry, said Lorin S. Sodell, manufacturing executive at the plant.

The Rolls-Royce facility opened in 2011 on a 1,000-acre site in Prince George. It makes precision aircraft components such as rotative discs and turbine blades.

Sodell said Rolls-Royce employed about 300 people at the plant at the start of 2018. So far this year, the company has added about two dozen, and Sodell said about 80 more are planned.

“That is Rolls-Royce employees,” he noted. “In addition to that, we have about 50 embedded contractors who work here at the plant for a variety of companies on a full-time basis.”

The hiring comes as Rolls-Royce, a British company with its North American headquarters in Reston, is seeing strong demand for components in aircraft such as the Airbus A380 and Airbus A350, the Gulfstream G650 and the Boeing 787....

Crumbs (Yes thank you Nancy)

The skills needed for those jobs include mechatronics, high-tech equipment maintenance and CNC machining.

Those guys are skilled machinists, they're pulling down a lot more than $15/Hour.

Some fast food outlets like Chick-Fil-A are paying $18/hr. for line workers. So the kids got what they wanted without electing Bernie Sanders.

I think the cheapest Lambo is actually labeled Audi R8.

(Audi is part of the VW Group.)

Yep.....the R8 definitely uses some Lambo technology.

In a previous lifetime, my wife (literally the-girl-next-door) moved to Hollywood as a couple of naive 19 y/o kids.

Eventually bought a new ‘69 Bug at “Bob Smith’s Hollywood VW & Porsche”. I still recall the showroom had a 911 with a sticker of “only” $5,000 - seemed like a fortune at the time.

I saw that sticker and settled for the Karmann Ghia at exactly $2000. Wish I had bought the Porsche.

We lost a bunch of machinists to that plant when it opened. Most of them highly trained CNC and EDM guys.

Glad for VA, but I was hoping they were reopening the old Springfield, MA plant...

Is there an employee discount? How about a factory outlet or a 2nd’s store?

If Trump succeeds in bringing back a lot of manufacturing jobs from Canada and Mexico it's going to get a lot worse. There's a shortage now but some community colleges are running apprenticeship programs to try and meet the demand which helps but experience is what really counts.
