'Hitler and the Nazis are just a speck of bird poop in more than 1,000 years of successful German history,' says Alexander Gauland, drawing criticism from secretary general of Merkel's party: '50 million victims of war, the Holocaust and total war are just bird poop' for Gauland and his party.

Comment makes utterly no sense in any context. Senile old fart gives a gift to Herr Führer Merkel. AfD’ers are so stupid.

It was just an event so off the scales of evil and depravity that it changed the trajectory of humanity forever... like a bird dropping in this idiot’s mind.

Some German phrases just don’t translate well into English.

His point is clear....most journalists and political figures in Germany today want German history to start in 1932, hype on the Nazi front (lasting only 12 years), then talk about all the wonderful things that came out of the 1960s and 1970s. So they skip over the Roman Empire, Karl the Great, the Thirty Years War, Kaiser Wilhelm I/II, and a thousand pages of fascinating history.

Go look at the integration books being used for migrant classes for those coming into the country. There’s a 200 page booklet used, with about 60 pages dealing with German history. Virtually all of the 60 pages go from 1932 to present-day Germany.

The Nazis didn’t rise out of a vacuum. Socialism is even more on the rise today than it was in Hitler’s day. Liberals say the Nazis weren’t socialists because they were fascists. Are the two mutually exclusive? No, they’re complimentary, like chocolate and peanut butter. Like love and sex only in a demonic way.

...and nothing about the Holy Roman Empire. It’s as if history is illegal.

No, it makes sense in the German context. The holocaust is used by leftist Jewish groups to promote bringing in unlimited "refugees" and "economic migrants." It is also a weapon used against Nationalist groups in favor of globalism.

Rehabilitating German history is a logical thing to do in that context.

Thanks...you understand his point. Merkel and her crew of Haters of Western Civilization have their counterparts in America who want us to forget our history and the principles our Constitution is based upon.

I can remember as a kid (1970s timeframe) having the world history year (there’s only one course in your final five years of high school), and the Roman history period was covered by two pages in a text book, and the teacher at the time spent no more than two class days on the whole Empire period.

I would go to study hall, and pull out the encyclopedia to read over the whole period of Roman Empire history. It made no sense to me to skip the period because there is so much that occurred and affects us even today. Yet, even in college....it marginally improved.

So Germany should afford to take responsibility for such short moment of insanity. Pay reparations to Poland.

It was one of the biggest failures of civilization in the history of the world. It was cut short because Hitler insanely believed he could win a war fighting on multiple fronts at the same time. Hitler was an anti-Christ. The damage the Nazis did is incalculable.

Isn’t German history basically just Germany trying to conquer the world every 50 years?

If you understand Ancient Rome the first thing you will realize is there truly is nothing new under the sun.

They say it all—and anyone who studies history can understand the present and the future.

_That_ is why they don’t teach it in school—don’t want the kids to be wise when they can become obedient servants of the ruling class instead.

I would think Merkel’s government is the one which could be described as “bird poop.”

“Pay reparations to Poland.”

Shouldn’t the entire state of West Prussia now being part of Poland count as reparations of sorts? Prussia used to be (arguably) the most important German state; now none of it is in Germany. And during reunification in the early 1990s the Germans permanently renounced all claims to Prussia or any other land they lost after the WWI & WWII.

Germany may be well-to-do but if they pay money to Poland they will have to pay several other countries too, which could be disastrous for the German (and thus the larger European) economy—unless we’re just talking about nominal fees to make a point. The most productive reparations I can think of for today’s circumstances would be for Germany to quit trying to force Poland to take in hoards of “refugees.” That would be a great benefit in the long run.

My high school history text spent exactly two sentences on Lincoln’s assassination.

It began my turnaround in studying history. The teacher we had that year was a dolt and made history completely boring. The book made it worse. I went along for a while then realized the book authors and the teacher were compete idiots. This woke up my interest again, after I was done with that class.
