AT&T will drop $100M on its four-block downtown Dallas campus, adding restaurants, a small outdoor concert venue and a six-story video wall.
The renovation, which would be completed by the end of 2019, will join a number of redevelopment projects in downtown's southeast quadrant in the last year: the Statler Hotel renovation, a two-year upgrade of the Adolphus Hotel and the relocation of the Dallas Morning News to the old Dallas library.
"We're looking to inject additional growth, commerce and entertainment into Downtown Dallas," AT&T Regional Vice President Mike Peterson said in a news release Monday. "This investment will result in an urban green space that gives people a place to recharge and reconnect. And we couldn't have done it without the help of the City of Dallas, DART, Downtown Dallas Inc. and local businesses."
Jackson Street, along the AT&T campus, has been closed off to traffic. Once the construction is complete, the downtown campus will be "more walkable, bike-able and well-lit," according to AT&T. Known as the AT&T Discovery District, the site will include public WiFi, on-site recycling and smart irrigation. The goal is an environmentally sustainable community for AT&T employees, local residents and tourists.
Along with a new expanded AT&T store, the site will include a 425-foot-long water feature, a beer garden and several restaurants, and a planned entertainment stage for local artists, bands and kid's events.
AT&T, the nation's largest telecommunications company, moved its corporate headquarters from San Antonio to Dallas in 2008. Approximately 6,000 people are on the Dallas headquarters campus. A separate operational hub in Atlanta, devoted to entertainment, announced its relocation to Los Angeles last year.
And their obnoxious Yahoo mail is another sore point. You would think they could come up with their own email service instead of relying on the Yahoo leftists.
And then what's with their installers? One guy ran the wire half way around our house. Service would be very flaky every time it rained. It took three different guys until the last one figured out that the first guy stapled through the wire in several places. He ripped out about a hundred feet of perforated cable and replaced it with about 10 feet.
I would drop them but I've had the email address so long, I don't want to go through the hassle of changing.
I grew up in Dallas, South Dallas as a young child and White Rock as a teenager.
I spent hours upon uncounted hours on the weekends at the Dallas Public Library reading every science fiction, science textbook and history book I could.
Until I inadvertently found the area where the magazines were kept. Playboy was probably the biggest reason I am not currently Bill Gates.

If they have that kind of bread to blow on some CEO’s ego driven wet dream they must be gouging the hell out of their customers.
Yes AT&T needs to invest in their reliability but mainly their customer service model/capabilities. I speak of this as both a personal consumer and a business customer. Their support sucks completely. Full of people that have no clue what they are doing, tons of red tape, different department that is designated for every little difference that can exist in an account, account managers that are no where to be found until it is time to sign a new contract. The most frustrating vendor I deal with by far.
Great for them. Too bad they refuse to expand their measly 6 meg DSL service so the rest of my subdivision can get internet access, much less upgrade the service. They’ve been offering 6 meg of BW as their fastest service for over 15 years. Dinosaurs!!
I have been told by a reliable source that AT&T has offered to pay up to $50,000 of legal fees per person to prevent deportation of any DACA typed they have employed.
Saving a Daca is more important than communications and data services.
Virtue signaling is definitely more important than the bottom line. (at least in the eyes of AT&T top management - Who else could have come up with this)
sadly most corporation's public relations is focused on PC. There are some exceptions, I hear Alfac in GA is more traditional and they do quite well.

Not as true anymore. Most people are doing away with land lies and going cellular if they haven't done so already.
Last time I looked there were 4 major carriers whose coverage was good enough to be considered nationwide. in order of decreasing size Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint (still HORRIBLE customer service on that one) Soon to go to three (maybe) So you have a choice, and if the 10-q filings are to be believed, AT&T and Verizon are losing customers and T-Mobile is gaining. Seems to me they damn well better care.
I have had pretty good service with them through the years. I have had them redo my phone line a couple of times (I have DSL and a land line), but they are always prompt about coming out. Once they did make a mistake. They ran the new line across my backyard, and said "someone else will be by to bury the cable". Several days went by, and still no one came by to bury the cable. I had to lift the cable in order to mow in that area. Another week or so goes by, and the cable still isn't buried. We had had a lot of rain, so the backyard was overgrown. I forgot about the unburied line which I could not see, and mowed right over it, severing it.
They were very apologetic about not having buried the line, and sent someone over the next day to run a new line and bury it. Other than that, I have had no issues. I am in the Houston area (Stafford/Sugar Land area, actually), and their service is pretty good here.
they own Directv now also and that’s pricey

So are all the other gonefs like Sprint, Comcast etc.
American Thieves and Thugs could spend a trillion dollars but it wouldn’t help. You are correct their service is awful and their customer service, oh dear God!
Thankfully I cut the cord on my land line and my wireless plan in 2010.
