National Rosé Day? Now It’s Doomed.

Did you know that today was National Rosé Day?

“Everyone's going crazé for rosé…it's one of the trendiest items of the past few years.”

I hate it when something I like gets trendy** in no small part because the first clue of its going vogue is price escalation. I’ve loved rosé since my college days (and nights) of cheap Mateus

and Lancers. When the sweet-as-cotton-candy Pink Zinfandel made the scene in the late 70’s the availability or real rosé, even in wine stores, all but evaporated. But when you could find it even the best French rosé was relatively cheap and the Spanish and Italian varieties were nearly as cheap as soda. No longer, my friends.

Which is why I was so excited to discover the Kirkland Provencal rosé at a reasonable price. On the other hand, when Costco starts sourcing and branding their own product you know the trendoids now own it.

But if you don’t care for rosé wine, grab yourself a pair of rosé colored glasses and have yourself a great National Rosé Day anyway.

Mateus and Lancer’s...
I enjoyed them both back in the early 70’s at Monterrey Bay, CA. Seemed to go just right with the local social atmosphere.

We would have Mateus and Blue Nun on my parents birthdays. Do they still make Blue Nun?

I like the Sophia Rose, and also the Marival in the summer. Goes good with the salmon or trout which the river across the road front provisions. Former chilled, latter grilled.

The Village of Elgin, Bisbee Copper is wonderful, haven’t had it in ages.
Tombstone Red is good too

Was a bit of a wine drinker back in the late 60s till I rediscovered beer and discovered GOOD bourbon. Straight up Jim Beam or Makers Mark with a beer to nurse on the side.

Before that blue nun Liebfraumilch( and other German wine) and Mateus or Lancers rose’ got me through. ( of Italian extraction I hated Italian wine because the only wine the family ever bought was ruffino Chianti or ultra sweet Muscatel…gag…. I discovered good Italian wine later in life)

Now I no longer drink, due to medicines I take. Growing old is FUN!

Mateus and Lancers? Rose Day? Followed by National Cirrhosis Of The Liver Day?

I’ll have a glass of good California Sauvignon Blanc please.

I strongly concur. I’ve been drinking nice dry Provence-style roses for 7-8 years now, and I dimly view the popularity surge of the last couple years, and the concurrent price hikes.

BAH!

BTW, this style of wine pairs nicely with BBQ, especially pork. Which little else does, in my book.

Today is national no day day. It doesn’t commemorate anything.

My fraternity had a "Wine and Cheese tasting party" each semester....basically it was any wine costing less than $3 and Cheese Whiz and Saltines.

Without fail, there was more destruction, fighting, guys breaking up with their girlfriends, and general injuries (one guy broke his foot and didn't remember how) after that party than any other party. Needless to say, I don't drink much anymore.

Prices are ridiculous.

Bisbee Copper blush was like $5 the bottle shipped to your door.

Now? $20.99

I used to work with this guy that had a PHD, I would always laugh when he said “How could this happen?”

Bob, you forgot the X in your calculus.

I worked with a lovely young lady with a PHD that got it. :)
