I remember Gene Scott! I knew a man who veritably worshiped him.

I am a highly principled conservative, and I decided to vote for Trump the day he announced.

I think that qualifies as common-sense pragmatism.

Yes! Coming from a supposed Constitutional expert, I took extreme exception to that and to him. He chose to ignore the very document he claims to revere. I have not trusted him since.

Levin should stick to law. Economics is not his thing. Trumponomics is way beyond him.

We have a few here who agree with Levin - they think we should continue to hand out $800 Billion of corporate welfare because of the possibility that not having that deficit might impact their own wallets for the short term.....amazing how the “most principled” are the greatest stumbling blocks when it comes to doing what’s right - they want their’s too even as they descry the “scumbags taking advantage of welfare”....too funny - and pathetic.

“I was expecting worse. I don’t have a problem and I’m not frustrated by conservative. I am a gray area person as opposed to a black and white type so I am more likely to cut people slack when they screw up or disagree. Everyone does at some point. I like to hear people out rather than right them off. Some folks on both sides just can’t. I call them wing-nuts and they come in all colors.”

I appreciate and understand your sentiments.

Donald Trump proved you can exercise principled leadership without being ideologically conservative. And that has been very surprising to learn from those of us who are ideologically conservative.

I’ve been on this forum a while, and I’ve seen a bit of a shift away from identifying as “conservative” on this forum since Donald Trump ran for office. Pragmatism is much more acceptable around here these days. Unfortunately I find it necessary to defend “conservatism” as a principle because not everyone here really identifies their views this way or even understands what it means.

Some of the posters on FR are actually left wing moles.

Unfortunately too many of the remainder are fools.

Did you ever think you would see the day when true Conservatives like Levin and Cruz would be as hated as the democrats by posters on FR?

I listen only to his podcasts where I can control Mark. He starts on that crap and I fast forward. If it continues into the next segment, I delete the podcast and turn on soft jazz from Pandora. Nice to “hang up” on him now and then. I wish he could hear the “click.”

Thanks for making my point. What the so called free traders like Levin espouse is neither free nor fair. Your comment about free trade within the USA is a non sequitur.

You mean you weren’t already?? The shouting screeching pinhead was hard to listen to two years ago when I dumped him.

All he does is start every segment with a low, calm voice, then by the commercial break (9 times an hour), he starts ranting and screeching to get you to be all excited and come back after the commercial.

As the Rush phrase goes, Levin is all symbolism over substance.

And Beck and a few others.

Too many have responded to the left’s Trump Derangement Syndrome with Trump Devotion Syndrome, in which anything that Trump does is automatically right merely because he does it.

Mark Levin reminds me of the late “Reverend” Gene Scott. He keeps yelling at the powers without making any real arguments. Wow, blast from the past! I used to watch his latenight show once on a while; he was a hoot. Remember how he'd show clips of horseraces? I think he owned a couple of "trotters" -- the one who toddle along pulling a sort of sulkey, or whatever that odd little cart is called. I loved watching Kathryn Kuhlman on Sunday mornings as a kid. "And now, Dino at the piano."

I agree completely.

On most topics Mark is out of the park brilliant but the things he gets wrong are so fundamental that it casts everything else in a bad light.

I haven’t written him off completely but I am no longer willing to spend very much time listening for the few gems I can expect to find among all the ranting.

Some would say the trade war started with Smoot-Hawley in the late 20s. They would say WWII was just an extension of Smoot-Hawley. That blaming the Jews was an extension of Smoot-Hawley.

The point is that here we are now in 2018. Regardless of how we got here, what do we do next?

Mark Steyn and several other foreigners are taking talk show jobs away from US citizens.
