TOBYHANNA — More than 100 new jobs are coming to the Tobyhanna Army Depot thanks to a $150 million increase in spending during federal fiscal year 2019 on WIN-T work — the development and maintenance of the Army’s most modern communications systems.
U.S. Rep. Matt Cartwright said Wednesday the move represents a long-term shift from reliance on private defense firms to Tobyhanna.
Tobyhanna Army Depot will conduct a job fair Saturday, June 30, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The Landing, Building 333, General Lemnitzer Street.
“As a result of the increase in workload, we are hiring and are offering a job fair to the community,” said Kristyn Smith, Tobyhanna’s public affairs officer. “The increase in the WIN-T workload is part of this, but other communications and electronics programs will also see growth.”
At the June 30 job fair, Smith said resumes will be accepted for a number of positions with the potential for an on-the-spot interview. The positions are: electronics mechanic helper, electronics worker, electronics mechanic, supply technician, material handler, electrician, electrical worker, machinist, machine tool operator, welder, electroplater worker, sheet metal worker/mechanic, painter, painting worker, industrial worker helper, general equipment mechanic, air conditioning equipment mechanic, sandblaster, electronics engineer, electronics technician, mechanical engineer, mechanical technician, computer engineer, information technology specialist, secretary and security guard.
Resumes will also be accepted from recent graduates and post-secondary students during the job fair.
All positions may be filled as term, temporary or permanent.
WIN-T — the Army’s Warfighter Information Network-Tactical — is the Pentagon’s ongoing effort to adapt the Army’s communication systems to out-perform military peer adversaries in the field. It is a modernization effort meant to transmit voice, video, and data to and from Army vehicles in motion in a way that protects the communications from being detected on the electromagnetic spectrum or jammed. The overall system utilizes both satellite links and line-of-sight communications.
“Tobyhanna is stepping up and doing what it does best,” said Cartwright, D-Moosic. “Helping warfighters do their job, saving taxpayers’ money, and putting our country in a more competitive and secure position.”
The work is part of a move on the part of the Army to rely less on private companies and more on the work of its own experts, like the military and federal personnel at Tobyhanna.
Tobyhanna Army Depot HR specialists will be at the job fair to review qualifications and answer questions related to the hiring process. Applicants need to bring hard copies of their resume, transcripts, certifications, and if applicable, documents that verify prior military experience and any additional information.
The Tobyhanna Army Depot main gate is directly off Interstate 380, exit 8. Visitors must present a valid ID card with photo, a U.S. passport, or a passport from another country that has been cleared by the State Department to the security guard on duty. Vehicles entering the depot are subject to search.
Tobyhanna, we had a Tobyhanna depot at Bagram when I was in A-Stan recently, I had to deal with them a lot when it came to repair of printers and fax machines, never knew they had one back in the states.
In Northeast PA, in the Poconos, just off Interstate 380.
Years ago the army had a supply depot in Baltimore (Fort Holabird), which is now an industrial park.

When they got a contract for a replacement system., I had to quip that it was to prove that the problems encountered in maintaining the first system wasn't just a fluke........
