Lexington is a separate jurisdiction. (Cities are independent in Virginia.) Lexington City has become extremely Liberal. The surrounding counties are very Conservative.
Lexington is the most liberal city in Virginia that is west of Charlottesville.
Rockbridge County went to Trump by 61.9% of the vote. Lexington City went to Hillary 61.4%.
Lexington went to Northam (the Rat) by 66% of the vote, while Rockbridge went to Gillespie with 61.5% of the vote.
How very interesting, thanks for posting that! :-)
Lexington is my favorite Virginia city, much friendlier to real Americans than trendy, socialist Charlottesville. I expect the TDS crazies will flock to The Red Hen for a awhile, drunk with their hatred. But reality will set in after their excitement wanes. This madness is going to get a lot worse as their frustration grows and Red Wave rolls on toward November.
What are the odds of restaurant being in business for Thanksgiving dinner?
Without a doubt. Charlottesville has turned into strip malls and car dealerships. It is ugly. Even walking around Charlottesville near the school isn't particularly attractive. If you walk as far as the old downtown, you'll find it's just like hundreds of other "historic districts" that have been given face lifts to no avail.
Many years ago, before air conditioning was common, and when the old business district was healthy, Charlottesville was actually a nice town.
Lexington on the other hand is largely untouched by time. It is far enough off the beaten path that time has passed it by. It is in a very conservative mountainous region with great traditions. Compared to Charlottesville, Lexington is worth touring on foot. A visit to Lee Chapel, the resting place of Robert E. Lee, is guaranteed to move you beyond words.
Maybe conservatives need to save their money and eat at home while certain businesses flop?
I will not be shedding any tears if the Red Hen croaks.
The place specializes in ‘locally sourced’ food, which means its suppliers are likely Trump voters.
Charlottesville always saddens me to hear its liberal. I always remember the waltons talking about how nice it was. I guess those were the days.
The headline should read:
“RED HEN LAYS A BIG EGG”.
I wish to them every negative and bad thing that could happen to a business.
the picture of the Red Hens chef Matt- pegs my gaydar. could be what the “Futh” is all about.
I was there last year. The docent showing people around the Lee Chapel was excellent. But a visit to Lexington should also include going to the cemetery where Stonewall Jackson is buried.
I echo that Lexington, VA. is at least for now a community with hallowed history. Yet university towns draw liberal educators and entrepreneurs that can quickly change the political fabric of the population. Once conservative towns like Asheville NC. and Greenville SC. have over the years actively recruited “hip” trendy liberal entrepreneurs to revitalize their downtowns. Asheville is now the San Francisco of the east and Bob Jones name and memory is fading in Greenville.
Thanks for straightening out my error. I thought the vote count was low... ;)
I would not call Lexington liberal. It has its liberal elements but I think this thing with the Red Hen is the fault of the Red Hen and not the fault of Lexington in general.
The two universities there (Washington & Lee and VMI) have about 4,000 students together. Lexington has about 7,000 inhabitants. I don’t know anything about the students although I would imagine VMI might not attract radical leftists. I know one retired professor who taught at VMI—a liberal Democrat (hated GWB) but not an extreme leftist. Haven’t had any contact with him for some years and don’t know what he thinks of how Sanders was treated.
