>>NBC’s fake rationale is that, golly, DNA tests don’t really provide proof of “tribal citizenship”, as if that is what anyone is asking for. In fact, all anyone is asking for is some proof that Warren – a lifelong fraud who has profited richly from the obviously false claim of Indian heritage and based an entire political career on it – in fact has Indian blood coursing through her veins. “Tribal citizenship” is completely irrelevant to anything, but NBC is so desperate to cover for its favorite Democrat in the Senate that it comes up with this nonsense. And people in the fake news media wonder why they are so utterly detested by most Americans.<<

I and Mrs. FD are prime examples.

I always knew I was German/Irish and when I had the Ancestry DNA test it came out I was mostly — Irish/German and then a smattering of other West and East European and a tiny % from some weird place like China.

My wife is from Mexico and — wonder of wonders, she is nearly 50% “Naive American” from all over North and South America.

She is quite prod to be Native American and properly claims it (as sort of a running joke). I cannot.

fuaxojhauntis; DNA will look a lot like mine with more English/Welch (based on hew looks) but probably a lot of Europe. And zero from the Americas.

So NBC can bite me.

Actually, Native American DNA is going to be fairly common in any American whose ancestors immigrated to America before about 1670, the era when the old country discovered it was a convenient place to dump what they called "white trash", i.e. "not good enough to remain; not bad enough to hang."

It may be trace amounts or around 1%, but it will show.

Those from south of the border are, of course, going to show a lot more not only because they had an extra century or so to mix with the local natives, but because there was less stigma associated with it.

Still, you have the combination of too many men on the frontier and many native chieftains who wanted to marry daughters into this class because our European ancestors had, among other things, useful tools including advanced weaponry which could and did give local tribes an edge over their rivals.

Plus (and I don't know how to put this delicately) men are far less selective about the women they mate with than vice versa. This is true whether it be a slave woman enticing the master (or son) in his house or a pretty native girl wanting to make a great trade deal for her father.

“Naive American”

I think we all have relatives from that category...

“”My wife is from Mexico and — wonder of wonders, she is nearly 50% “Naive American” from all over North and South America.””

Naïve American? Is she really naive? If she is 50% Native American aren’t there government programs available to her? She may not want to participate but it would be interesting to see just what all is offered to those who do have Native American ancestry.

Some info -

http://www.collegescholarships.org/nativeamerican.htm

This says 1/4 is the required % for some programs.

The only reason I mention it is because I knew a gal in CA years ago who was qualified to participate in government programs and she received dividends from shares in oil wells in TX or OK...

Why not?

I always knew I was German/Irish and when I had the Ancestry DNA test it came out I was mostly . . .

Same here - dad got off the boat in the'20s and talked about his dad being a jaeger on the Kaiser's game preserve. Ancestry says I'm anything but - coming from Eastern and Western Europe, the UK and 1% from Africa. ??? My ancestors must have traveled a lot. :-)
