I’m pretty sure Trump is going to appoint one of the Thai soccer/cave boys to replace Kennedy. It can’t be just coincidence that those two stories are the only ones being covered today.
I think there is a better than even chance that the first pick will NOT make it through nomination.
With McCain out, the R’s have ZERO spare votes... which means, the pro-choice Rhinos will have the power to stop things. I don’t think enough Dems will switch to pull through. At least, not until they have shot down one, maybe even two Trump nominees.
It’s ALL for show now... Guys like Manchin will want to say they “wanted to work with Trump, but had to insist that he nominate a more moderate Justice”.

I agree, but I would want to be pretty certain that we had the votes. If we don’t, and the Dems retake the Senate, then there will be no appointment until the next Democrat President.

If trump makes the right pick, Barrett in my view, the Rats will not take the Senate. The Rats fear Barrett more then any of the other possibles. She will be attacked in the most vile ways possible. It will be very ugly, but it will show the rats for just exactly who they are. The push back for attacking a very personable attractive mom of seven with stellar credentials will be huge. It will also fire up Trump base to vote, and put rats in state Trump carried under intense pressure to vote for her. win, win, win.
That’s what I think. But it’s a risky proposition. If it’s a misjudgment, then we’ve traded Kennedy for a liberal. One alternative would be to go with one of the others who’s more confirmable, and put Barrett up next time if we can expand our control of the Senate.
This would be a tough appointment.
It would be better for her to be the appointment to the outgoing RBG or the wide (intentional) Latina, after Republicans have passed the 2018 midterms and increased their Senate majority.

That would be the safe play, but no matter who is nominated the rats will go all in to stop them. In this environment I think Barrett has the best chance of being confirmed. Plus she is by all accounts the type of judge Trump wants on the Supreme Court. A textulist in the mode of Scilia. I like her and I like Kavanaugh. The others I worry about.
If he is not functional the GOP should remove him from the Senate. There must be a means of doing that under the Senate rules. Maybe the Az governor can do something?
