Thanks...always looking for another perspective!
Great quote!
Folk singer Murray Mclachlan wrote
The Farmers Song in 1972.
Dusty old farmer out working your fields
Hanging down over your tractor wheels
The sun beatin’ down turns the red pain to orange
And rusty old patches of steel
There’s no farmer songs on that car radio
Just cowboys, truck drivers and pain
Well this is my way to say thanks for the meal
And I hope there’s no shortage of rain
Straw hats and old dirty hankies
Mopin’ a face like a shoe
Thanks for the meal here’s a song that is real
From a kid from the city to you
The combines gang up, take most of the bread
Things just ain’t like they used to be
Though your kids are out after the American dream
And they’re workin in big factories
Now If I come on by, when you’re out in the sun
Can I wave at you just like a friend
These days when everyone’s taking so much
There’s somebody giving back in
Straw hats and old dirty hankies
Mopin’ a face like a shoe
Thanks for the meal here’s a song that is real
From a kid from the city to you

Honestly, it’s not that important. With me, it is really just a stylistic thing. He doesn’t say anything that isn’t true. I’m also not crazy about Jordan Peterson - and he rarely says anything wrong either!
I like Mike Rowe. I like the way he celebrates these jobs and the people who do them, and stresses the importance of hard work and becoming capable at something that really matters.
He also makes the point that an awful lot of people are going to college today for whom it may not actually be the right thing - and coming out with enormous debt - while we don’t have enough good people going into these necessary fields.
A lot of people have come to look down on these jobs; Rowe has done a lot to renew understanding of and respect and value for them.
Does Mike mean the world doesn’t really come out of an I-phone?
He used to be an opera singer.
Really? I like opera singers. For several years, I taught them acting. Very nice people. None too bright, like actors, but nice.
[The divide has been purposely created. Those on the left side of the divide are idiots that are incapable of relating cause to effect over time and/or have an emotional/psychological maturity retarded to an elementary school level.]
An ever increasing cross-section of the culture dominated by perpetual adolescence.
I think this interview might change your mind. He speaks of his grandfather (or father? Sorry, Oldtimer’s disease!) being a terrific carpenter after quitting school in the 7th grade, & then learned multiple other trades. Mike wanted to do the same, but did not have the knack. He explains a lot of his history & how he ended up doing the show. It really is well worth your time to watch.
Yep, he sang professionally for a short time with the Baltimore Opera. And choir and barbershop as a teenager and young man.
Mike Rowe is an actor. Of course he’s sleek, slick and faintly oily. It comes with the territory.
I admit that I have not been able to appreciate Jordan Richards yet Ive tried listening to him, But his style just doesnt grab me

YES! So tired of all the discussions that start out with how BOTH SIDES need to take responsibility for the disconnect... Blah, blah, blah. As is establishing common ground with these assclowns will lead to a mutually agreeable position.
He is a fake working guy. He’s the first to admit it. He was going to be an opera singer, fell into TV hosting, wound up meeting people that really work for a living and loved them. But he’s still a classically trained TV host, and he knows it. He also doesn’t think there should be such a delineation. That’s his big point, that something has gone wrong with the country and goal #1 for all kids is to not be the kind of people he puts on his shows, people without whom the country simply doesn’t go.

Personally, I do not care if someone is a 9 year old Bangladeshi transsexual in a wheelchair with a third ear... if their words and ideas have merit, then LISTEN!!!! The ad hominem nonsense is just a ploy to allow one to stop thinking rather than rebutting ideas that they are unwilling or incapable of rebutting. Try focusing on the IDEAS rather than the PERSON, and one might do themselves a favor.

He may sound like a slick entertainer, but he puts his money where his mouth is. Check up on his foundation at mikeroweworks.com. The man is putting money in the hands of people through trade school scholarships who don't want to spend $300K so they can become a Starbucks barrista with a college degree and a lifetime of crushing debt.
Or, if you are on Facebook, check out his more or less weekly "Returning the Favor" show. Each episode highlights a person or group in this country giving back to those that need it desperately, while barely surviving on their own. The show works with local groups and sponsors to help these "bloody do-gooders" (his line) expand or maintain their organizations. All without any government interference, thankfully.
If I sound like a shill for Mr. Rowe, its only because I totally agree with his philosophy of work ethic! I only wish I had more free cash so I could support his groups more than I do now.
I’d sure like to see Mike join the TRUMP administration!!!!
The guy has a great mind and is very wise. And so many people admire him!!!
