Facebook bars users from sharing blueprints for 3D-printed guns

Facebook is blocking sites that provide instructions for creating 3D printed guns and deleting content related to the creation of such weapons.

The company's decision comes as several states attempt to prevent such guidelines from being published online. Cody Wilson, a self-described "radical individualist," has waged an ongoing battle against the federal government for the right to publish his open-source code for 3D printing firearms.

Wilson reached a settlement in June that would have allowed his company, Defense Distributed, to do just that. But the night before his site was to go live, a federal judge blocked the settlement and banned Defense Distributed from publishing the blueprints.

Still, the information remains available elsewhere online. On Thursday, Facebook (FB) announced it was removing all such content.

"Sharing instructions on how to manufacture firearms using 3D printers or CNC milling machines is not allowed under our Community Standards," a company spokesperson said in a statement....

All those plans are online already.
Along with the ‘anarchist handbook’

Yawn.

When 3D printers can duplicate multiple varieties of molecules simultaneously, what a brave new world this will be.

And that’s not even touching on nannites or a future robot’s ability to construct things.

Bottom line — we must end Islamic intolerance and anti-Christian intolerance and other wacko extremism before there is a need to completely obliterate personal privacy.

As we speak 14 year old boys are hand-making AK-47s that work like a charm in small rooms in Pakistan and elsewhere.

Doesn’t the later Star Trek series have Replicators that can make anything out of thin air so to speak?

One of my 10 year olds is making a Lego machine gun, tied to Lego EV3. Looking to next mount it on a mobile platform and program it via a Raspberry Pi and Adruino. Fun, educational, not deadly like an AK-47. We've got one of those, too.

Wonder what he or his twin brother would build if given a fully functional 3D printer?

I bought a mill and lathe to assert my rights.

I have trouble with a hammer and a screwdriver. My late father was a pretty good shade tree mechanic and handyman but it didn’t get passed on in any way.

"Facebook bars users from sharing blueprints for 3D-printed guns"

Does being on Facebook make it your only portal to the Internet? Like AOL does? I have no clue, never joined Facebook. Apparently they have some reason to feel confident they can "bar" people with Facebook accounts from engaging in certain otherwise normal human behavior.

Me too. I’ve got a Grizzly 4003G. I lost my South Bend 9X36 Heavy in a divorce.

Heard Cody Wilson on the radio and he was pretty amazing with his approach, debate style, and prep. Quality advocate.

Facebook’s action is like putting up a road block on a single road between the east coast and west coast. There are other routes. FB continues with delusions of grandeur.

I am waiting for CNN to use a 3D printer to make one of these “lethal and undetectable “ plastic guns and demonstrate using it. It would be fun to watch it explode.
