Who will be next?
This is undoubtedly the scariest time we have been in since America was founded. We have been here for about a week. Where we are right now makes the Cuban missile crisis or major terrorist attacks, by comparison, look like little more than daily news. One of the reasons I can see it and so many can’t is because I threw out my cable television over 30 years ago. If I want news, I go looking for it from reliable sources. I don’t sit in an easy chair and let some propagandist posing as an anchorman or pundit ram his version of what he wants me to see as news down my throat.
I threw out my television, also thirty years ago, in 88. Life became better. I never got a cell phone, either. I do have this PC but it stays in one place while I go other places.

I stopped watching TV in 1994.

My attitude toward cell phones has always been that when I am out of touch I want to be out of touch. I don’t want to hear people complaining,”Why didn’t you answer your phone! I wanted to talk to you! You’re avoiding me.”
Actually I killed the TV when one night I came home at ten PM from a day of particularly arduous work to my wife and four kids sitting on their necks slack jawed staring at the tube and not even noticing I had just come in the door. I was tired and out of sorts and I picked up the box, took it to the alley, and put a concrete shard through the screen. No one uttered a word of complaint though they did look a bit discomfited. The kids started reading books and it was thereafter easier to get them to pay attention to their school studies. Everything got better bit by bit. After only a few months, when I entered a house with the TV on I might see something on the screen that looked interesting and sit to watch. After a couple of minutes I had to get up and go do something even if it was just to kibbitz in the kitchen.
I’ve read some pearl clutching histrionics before, but this takes the cake.
I just turn it off.
I know folks who “just turn it off” and they have constant nags from wives and acquaintances about having their phones turned off. No thanks. Nobody gives me a hard time about not having one. The worst is, “How do you exist???”
We have not turned our TV on in weeks except for a 5 minute segment of Tommy Robinson on Tucker Carlson. I have talked Direct TV into reducing our cable rate to $14.40 per month due to the fact that we are ready to just cancel completely. I’m into year two of this rate.
