Great questions, have answers but late now. Let me try tomorrow. Cheers!
I prefer the old Hofuf souk...
Oil is a small part of the Dubai economy, international business and shipping plus tourism is the vast majority of the wealth.
“My grandfather rode a camel, my father rode a camel, I drive a Mercedes, my son drives a Land Rover, his son will drive a Land Rover, but his son will ride a camel”,
FReepers can say what they will of the Middle East but this guy was a visionary well beyond his years.
Yeah, one tourist just spent 3 nights in a hideous jail after drinking a glass of wine on her flight there.
Am I the only FReeper who clicked on the link to learn more about their plans to build a mega WALL?
Agree with all your points. How long will it last?
Are we talking the Eastern Provence of Saudi Arabia? I was in Hofuf in the late 70’s. I was working on the natural gas program.
Yep.....the same. I was in Abqaik for about 6 months bout 1979 or so. Remember the date farms?
Sure do. I probably committed a capital crime by taking my girlfriend (another native Southern Californian) to it. We were married a year later. I did all the sites, Dhahran, Ju’ayma (sp?), Shedgum, Uthmaneyha (sp?). Nothing like going on the highway past Abquiq and get blasted by that natural gas flare about a mile off the road.
Better have metal detectors.
