McDonald’s Boldly Brings Bacon and Sausage Together on a French Toast McGriddle
Eater ^ | August 14, 2018 | Chris Fuhrmeister

• McDonald’s has been serving McGriddles — breakfast sandwiches with two little pancakes for buns — for years, and now the chain is taking its sweet-and-savory morning item to a higher level. Mickey D’s has introduced the French toast McGriddle for a test run at some 200 locations in Minnesota. Not only does this dish innovate by tucking the fillings inside two slices of French toast, it brings bacon and sausage together on the same sandwich.

• Speaking of McDonald’s, it seems the Golden Arches has decided its table service and self-ordering kiosks are the way of the future. McDonald’s plans to expand both programs to hundreds of locations across California, Georgia, Maryland, and New York, according to the Los Angeles Times.

• Congratulations to residents of Vancouver, who will once again have the chance to get a taste of In-N-Out Burger in their home city. The beloved West Coast burger chain is returning to the ‘Couve for a one-day pop-up on Sunday, September 8, reports Daily Hive.

• Elsewhere in Canada, Daily Hive notes that pop superstar Justin Bieber is a good Canadian and was recently spotted taking his fiancee, Hailey Baldwin, to a Tim Hortons in his hometown of Stanford, Ontario.

• Starbucks continues to expand beyond standard coffee, and the Seattle-based chain has announced a new protein-packed blended cold brew. This may be a shot at dystopian food-in-liquid-form company Soylent.

• World Central Kitchen, the non-profit organized by hero chef José Andrés, has wrapped up its operation in Redding, California. WCK served 40,000 meals to victims of the Carr wildfire.

• Look at these macarons decorated with far-too-realistic baby faces and have nightmares forever.

• If you’re going to do the crime, you better be prepared to do the time. A Montana man was arrested for kicking an employee and fleeing an Arby’s after he was busted for putting soda in a water cup, according to the Takeout. The perp reportedly attempted to hide in the restroom of a nearby Denny’s, but police officers found and overpowered him.

• Former reality television star and Donald Trump aide Omarosa Manigault Newman is all over the news thanks to her new book and secret recordings from inside the White House. Want to know more about Omarosa? Well, according to this profile in Elle, her favorite restaurant is a golf-themed eatery inside the Jacksonville (Florida) International Airport.

• Singapore’s renovated Raffles hotel has a couple of big names overhauling its menu. Famous French chefs Anne-Sophie Pic and Alain Ducasse are among the culinary pros who will shape the hotel’s cuisine, according to Bloomberg.

• Here is Philadelphia Magazine columnist Sandy Hingston ranting and raving about how millennials are killing mayonnaise. “This attitude comes to you from young people who willingly slurp down eight kazillion kinds of yogurt, not to mention raw fish and pork belly and, yo, detergent pods, so don’t talk to me about mayonnaise,” writes Hingston, a proud baby boomer. “The only reason for this raging mayophobia is a generation’s gut-level renouncement of the Greatest Generation’s condiment of choice.”

• This San Francisco coffee shop really wants customers to use Apple Pay to complete their transactions.

• Eighties sci-fi horror series The Predator is getting a reboot, and the updated monster has some truly terrifying teeth that look to be well suited for tearing into large chunks of flesh. But, iO9 wants to know how this creature would consume everyday foods such as sushi, pigs in a blanket, and peanut butter-and-jelly sandwiches. “Does it toss the little morsels towards its hellish mouth-scape or does it use its hands, which it has, and which should mean it has no need for movable mouthparts? Does it use chopsticks?” These are the questions that need answers.

• And, finally, Bon Appétit has released its annual Hot Ten list, singling out its picks for America’s best new restaurants. A couple of restaurants from former Eater Young Guns — Nite Yun in the class of 2018 and Colin Stringer and Andon Whitehorn from the class of 2015 — made the cut.

Sorry but pancakes/french toast + injected syrup AND bacon/sausage makes my So Cal raised stomach turn.

Over time I have gathered such gastronomic monstrosities are Southern/Eastern, just like the mash up of chicken and *shudder* waffles.

Sounds pretty awesome to me!

I wonder what they’ll call it in France? I’d call it “Le Marteau.” (A reference to one of their historical figures.)

Oi! I ought to have not opened the link about the macarons. While they are the one of the very few Almond-ingredient foods I cannot handle, I really wanted to see the baby faces. Bad mistake. Even if I loved macarons there is no way I would pop a macaron looking like that in my mouth. Talk about something I think Planned Parenthood would put out on the market...! Yech and double-yech.

TIM HORTONS ICED CAPP / this is good

ING 5 oz. brewed coffee (strong and Tim Hortons' brand is naturally the best) 3 Tbsp dark brown sugar
(use 3 1/2 Tb maple syrup for a drink free of refined sugar) Tb vanilla 1/3 cup cream (coconut milk for dairy-free version) 12 ice cubes

METHOD Mix hot coffee, brown sugar, and vanilla. Stir/dissolve sugar. Add cream; and cool 5 min. Add mixture to blender.
Add ice cubes Blend a min (in high-speed blender, pulse to avoid liquefying ice) Pour into cups, add straws.

So now they wanna cheat us out of our brawls between workers and customers on YouTube! Just say no to kiosks.

I’d cut that into 4 pieces and then smother it in maple syrup at which time (something you can’t get a McDees) I would lay Six eggs fried soft over easy over the 4 pieces and enjoy.
It would be a breakfast snack ... if it was to BE breakfast for me I would do it 3 times.
I eat once a day and if is breakfast that means for some reason I did not sleep and the above meal will put me to sleep
except that since you can’t get the 6 or (18) over easy eggs at McDees I will have dishes to do at home (and I really hate doing dishes, especially when I am sleepy)
Oh well

Oh, good, it has cheese on it. I was afraid they’d forgotten it.

Can I get one with a layer of french fries or hashbrowns?

As a former canadian, I concur. When I head back to Vancouver, that’s the only coffee I order or Blenz, the other canuck coffee outfit. Heck, I even ask anyone coming back from up north to bring me 2 bags at least and I pay double..

Tried a McGriddle shortly after they were introduced and just a couple of bites was more than enough for me. Sickeningly sweet. I’ll take a BK croissanwich with ham, egg and cheese any day...except for when it comes time to rid my body of them...that’s an uncommonly unpleasant experience.

I like it that way very much. One thing about McDonald’s - they know how to do research and adapt to changing technology and consumer tastes.
