The 'Active Self Protection' series of video shorts (3-5 minutes) on Youtube using real life video as an instructional resource on concealed carry and self defense. These videos were taken all over the world, but a surprising amount of them were recorded in Brazil.

I always carry with ‘one in the pipe’.

In a life or death situation, you want the fewest number of mechanical motions possible, to get a round off.

I’ll go one step further. Always carry with one in the chamber of a pistol that does not have active safety features. I’ve seen plenty of videos where someone forgot to rack the slide, or couldn’t because of an injury. And I’ve seen plenty of videos where someone forgot to disengage the safety due to the extreme dynamics of the situation. I carry a Glock 23 with one in the chamber. It’s the only way I’ll carry.

A "decocker" DA/SA that is concealed and in Condition Two is what I have evolved (or devolved) to. Jerry Miculek might be able to start with an empty chamber and survive, but not this old bird.

My .40 MP Shield has no safety, ready to fire with a round already in the chamber. Same with my service pistol.

I don’t carry with a round in chamber. Unless, the situation dictates it.

If I am stopping to help someone along side of highway — dictates round loaded.

Yes, this is one reason gun makers took the firing pin OFF the hammer and replaced the whole shebang with a transfer safety bar system.

On auto loaders/double action semi autos, there are plenty of them to sort through, and then Familiarize yourself with whatever safeties you need to know in your sleep.

I like the 1911 style of pistol. You carry them with a round chambered , the hammer cocked and the safety on. My Sig P238 is like that. All you need to do is flip the safety off and fire. High quality pistols are probably very safe carried that way. I wouldn’t want to carry a Saturday night special like that.

I like the 1911 style of pistol.

Me too. Specifically the Colt 1911 series 80 system. The thumb safety is right where I expect it. My Mustang Pocketlite doesn't have a grip safety like my model 'O', but I'm getting used to it.

1911 system all the way for me unless I choose a revolver someday.

In the book, “J.M.Brwoning, American Gunmaker”, it mentions that his favorite pistol was the little .32 auto made by FN and Colt. He also designed the .32 auto round.

One day he surprised his Brothers by pulling it out of hiding and firing it in one motion. He had been secretly practicing.

He preferred hammerless or inside hammer pistols and also thought the single safety was sufficient. He put the hammer and grip safety on the 1911 because the Army wanted them.

I always liked hammers myself.

Many of the 'Active Self Defense' vidoes have the surviving victim doing just that. Browning knew what he was talking about on a lot of levels.

I always liked hammers myself.

As do I, but not TOO prominent a hammer. By letting my thumb ride the back of the hammer as I holster the pistol, I know by feel if the hammer would start rotating back for any reason, and I find that reassuring.

I like the 1903 Colt too, but they are too collectible for me to fool with nowadays.
