That seems to be happening in Venezuela. The country is zooming down to some sort of Hollywood -like dystopia where the cities are depopulated and the home of roaming gangs of ‘gatherers’ and towns that have a little bit to survive on (decent land or a water source} fort up and form militias to drive off the desperate mobs of ‘wanderers’ searching for sustenance.
If what those "immigrants" were bringing actually worked, it would work at the places they left.

Also, something I do not ever see mentioned, currently pretty much all the wealth lies in the hands of the indigenous populations. When those become fewer and the invaders ever more, there will be calls - and measures - for massive "redistribution"... socialism will follow. I give it 20 to 30 years at best.
