And even though it’s not always reported on, most people have a sense of the constant activity of the US military that goes on around the world. It is still hard to put into perspective just how dominate the US military is, however. In this article, I will attempt to give you a much better idea of just how superior the US military is compared to its closest competitors.

If you pay attention to political news, specifically news regarding budgets, you know that the US spends an astronomical amount on its military. Here is what US military spending looks like compared to the rest of the world’s biggest spenders:

It’s not how much we spend. It’s how much isn’t wasted.

A typo in the first half of the first sentence.

Crap like that drives me nuts. (Must be the nitpick Virgo coming out in me.)

A whole lot of deception in how those numbers/graphs portray data, not to mention serious fiscal facts ignored in the production of them.

First - when nearly every weapons developer/manufacturer is owned BY the government - how can you compare the cost/budget to the USA - where we actually semi follow capitalism? The “effective” budget for China’s military is more like 5X the actual reported budget.

Second - The actual graphs - (intentionally) distort the data by not drawing them to scale (for the same line item). Quite deceptive.

How do we measure the damage eight years of Barrack Obama and insane social experimentation did to the warrior ethos? Hopefully the weeds he planted are being pulled out by their roots. Having Mattis in charge gives one hope.

One chart gave numbers of Chinese vs US hardware and manpower.

When it comes to hardware, numbers do not tell the story.
China has 714 vessels in its navy
US has 415 vessels>

China has 32 destroyers
US has 62 destroyers.

China has 1 aircraft carrier
US has 10.

All vessels aren’t equal.
All destroyers aren’t equal.
China’s one aircraft carrier IS NOT on par with any of ours.

Much of China’s hardware is from the 80’s or even 70’s,
though some is newer.

If one wants to truly understand the big picture, they must look beyond numbers and look at what those numbers actually represent.

a 1970’s diesel sub is not the same as a 10 year old, nuclear powered boomer or attack sub.

Also...
Just because there are numbers of equipment, does not mean it is in a condition of upkeep or that it is crewed, or that the crew is properly or regularly trained.

Much of Russia’s fleet only spends a month or 2 outside of port doing tours or drills.

“we have troops all over central asia. a shame we can’t even protect our own borders”

That’s the point, isn’t it?

What’s the use of a military when our own borders have been overrun and our age old enemies are inside the fence?

That was one of the causes/characteristics of Rome after a few centuries of the Empire.

Ours is refusal to enforce the borders and complicity by the Elites. Romans had gone soft as we have. Their armies became filled with “barbarians” mainly Goths including commanders who became Emperor though not Roman.

Our Empire is ten times as large as Rome’s.

When talking nuclear weapons, there is no such thing as ‘military superiority’.

Yes, the U.S. spends $600 billion on its military while China only spends $150 billion. But does that mean we have four times more and better stuff? Well, let’s see... The American military has been known to spend $10,000 on toilet seats. The Chinese?... What toyret seats, you spoiled American person? You see hole in ground? You squat!
