Why Hasnít Trumpís Refugee Policy Repelled His Christian Supporters?
The Atlantic ^ | September 21, 2018 | Conor Friedersdorf

Refugees are not simply impoverished migrants. A refugee is defined, by a 1951 international convention, as a person who, “owing to well-founded fear of being persecuted … is outside the country of his nationality and is unable or, owing to such fear, is unwilling to avail himself of the protection of that country.”

The maximum number of refugees that the U.S. should accept in a given year is a fraught question. Dara Lind reports that in the final year of the Carter administration, federal officials settled on the answer 231,700. Under Reagan, the answer fluctuated between a high of 217,000 and a low of 67,000. The most common answer under George H.W. Bush was 131,000. Under Bill Clinton, the number ranged between 142,000 and 78,000. Under George W. Bush, the most common figure was 70,000, while under Barack Obama, figures ranged from 70,000 to 85,000 until the last year of his presidency––on his way out, with kids at the border, the figure surged to 110,000.

What the last 6 presidents—three Republicans, three Democrats—have in common is settling on a significantly bigger number than the Trump administration announced this week as its new refugee maximum.

“Trump plans to cap the number of refugees that can be resettled in the United States next year at 30,000,” The New York Times reports, “further cutting an already drastically scaled-back program that offers protection to foreigners fleeing violence and persecution.” (Last year’s figure under Team Trump was 45,000 refugees, though that is misleading in that far fewer refugees were actually resettled in practice—according to a recent article in The Guardian....

I'm starting to think that communistic atheists don't understand us at all.

The Left proclaimed victory in the culture war saying that they crushed the Religious Right Moral majority, now they’re baffled that appeals to morality no longer work and their opponents are nihilists who hold nothing sacred.

This is what you wrought.

We are neither blind, nor stupid, we see what had happened in Germany, Sweden, France, Great Britain. Etc. This is not a supposed lack of Christian charity it is about survival.

They would allow killers, thieves and rapists to come in to our country unchecked

Because "refugee" is a lie. Half of these people are not refugees from anything but their own incompetence, corruption, greed, or hatred. They're not coming here seeking refuge. They're coming here demanding we accommodate them, that we change our way of life to make them more comfortable. And a good number of them actually hate us and want to destroy us.

There's nothing Christian about baring your throat to a wild animal so it can rip you to pieces.

I've heard the old saying about opening the door to strangers because people have entertained angels unaware. But the opposite is true too; there's a far greater chance of welcoming in demons.

Why haven’t socialists been disgusted with Democrats complete failure to help or support black men and women in Democrat controlled cities?

Probably because the United States is NOT a refugee camp. It’s our home.

They’re trying to wrangle it so that everyone is a refugee.

The only answer to that is that no one is a refugee.

Shut the door and nail it closed.

Don’t recall the part in the Bible ordering us to accept billions of criminal illegals and non-Christians into our homes.

Because we know that a lot of violent evil people are abusing refugee status to get in here.

We’re christians. That doesn’t mean “stupid.”

My answer to the leftists at The Atlantic is this. When leftists want to “drive religion from the public square,” they cannot then try to justify public policy on the basis of religion. Sorry, you tossed that tool out of your tool box a long time ago.

Friedersdorf of the Atlantic is a dabbler. From time to time he dabbles in religion and gets burned. It is recalled that he famously termed Obama the post-religion President to excuse the President’s attendance at a church that despised America. He can’t win this article’s argument with Christians because they are aware that the Obama refugee program for the Middle East was decidedly anti-Christian. And as for their program at the Mexican border, he had a devil’s compact with Protestant groups looking to cash in on the big bucks, and with the moribund Catholic Church that was dreadfully in need of fresh blood to fill its pews.

God helps those who helps themselves. We prefer they help themselves in their own countries, rather then helping themselves to our country
