The Trump administration and some others in the U.S. government have sent some not-so-subtle hints lately that they are open to a military invasion of Venezuela to oust President Nicolas Maduro.
“It’s a regime that frankly could be toppled very quickly by the military, if the military decides to do that,” President Trump told reporters on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly on Tuesday.
The words seem to offer some encouragement for a coup, which may not come as a surprise because the New York Times published an investigation in early September that found that the Trump administration met secretly with Venezuelan military officers over the last year to discuss an overthrow of Maduro.

Is the MSM worried that Trump will send in the US Marines to seize control of a foreign country?
Or is the MSM worried that Trump is encouraging Venezuelan Colonels to rise up and take control of their government?
Because those two things are very different.
Let the Venezuelans have their own damn coup.
Latino political history is a never-ending story of dictators and strong-men. “Caudilloism” is part of their culture. Chavez and Maduro are not alien invaders - they came from Venezuela, they were supported by many Venezuelans, and they govern in a Venezuelan way.
Maybe by getting completely raped by socialism, without having the Yanqui to blame at all, they will, for a generation or two, actually learn to appreciate limited government and self-responsibility.

Yes, or misunderstood. Trump was clearly talking about an internal coup, not an external invasion.
If there is to be a coup then Venezuela’s neighboring countries must sponsor it. If there is to be an invasion then Venezuela’s neighboring countries can spend their own blood and treasure to accomplish it.
All we need to do is freeze the assets of every prominent Venezuelan connected to the Maduro regime and forbid them to travel anywhere in the world.

Venezuela has one of the world’s largest oil reserves. Having them in our pocket, along with our own rapidly increasing oil sector, give us leverage against both Middle East players and Russia.
I hope not. It’s not our problem. Let them rot.

Venezuela has an established track record of successful coups. They can do it themselves.
