A new trend is giving a break to breastfeeding sports fans. Lactation stations have started popping up in sports spaces: basketball arenas and baseball and football stadiums.
Unlike bathroom stalls, lactation stations give moms a quiet and sanitary place to nurse their childrenwhich most moms didnt have just two decades ago.
In 1999, Americans were almost evenly divided on whether they felt breastfeeding mothers should do so in public or private, with nearly a third neither agreeing nor disagreeing.
Today, over half of Americans say they feel comfortable with mothers breastfeeding near themyet many public places arent the most sanitary.
Minneapolis U.S. Bank Stadium now offers a mothers room with a changing station, two private nursing areas and a television so fans wont miss any action on the field.
Chicagos Soldier Field recently installed a lactation station just in time for use by Bears fans; the facility is sponsored by Advocate Health Care, and is decked out with baby wipes, outlets for electric breast pumps and disinfectants.
Soldier Fields station is from Mamava. U.S. Bank Stadium has four of the brands pods to complement its mothers room. Theyve also been placed at numerous airports, colleges, hospitals and businesses across the country. Some have even popped up overseas at U.S. Army bases in Germany and South Korea.
Why not just breastfeed in the stands? I always did. Sheesh.
Another “frontier” for “trans” men to conquer ... Or, much more likely, sue over.
Lawyers right now lining up.
Huh? “Lactation stations”? Weren’t they originally called “Milkshakes”?
I haven’t kept abreast of this story in years. I’ll just put on a good front and pretend I know what this is all about.
You know I’m going to milk this story for all its worth. I’m no COWard.
I hope this post doesn’t see my blogging career end in udder destruction.
I did as well and doubt I would have used a nursing pod or room but its nice that they are there. Anything that promotes breast feeding is great. I very quickly learned you either nurse everywhere you go, or you probably wont be successful at it. If you are going to nurse, you cant choose when or where with a hungry baby. I just wore loose T-shirts , pulled the edge of it up, and you couldnt see anything unless you put your face right down to my chest. Lol. My kids were nursed on planes, trains, in parks and museums. My advice to any new mother, nurse your baby, dont try to use a cover up unless you just prefer it. A loose T-shirt works better and gives plenty of privacy, but with the crucial eye contact. They are young adults now and have always been so healthy it is astounding.
Exactly. And those covers where you can peek in at your neckline are good for modesty as well as the kid who likes to keep exposing mama and checking the surroundings! Depends on the kid, some stay put and the t shirt is enough. We have photos of me and my cousin nursing our babies together at Dodger Stadium. They are in their 20s now.
:) I was modest and discreet, you know. I didnt just whip it out and wave it around!
Good Lord I am so glad I dont go to sporting events. Every stupid place has to be femmed up.
Your post sucks
Hey Texasgator. At least you read my comments.
However, your words do make a great “Epilogue” for it.
If you are old enough to get this, let me know>
“Hot” and “Cold”. What movie? Which actor?
Initially, there was only a trickle of information. Now, the story is splattered all over the front pages. But at least the little squirts are happy.
Seriously, can we expect to soon see these "lactation pods" at the drag races, too? I can picture it now: The noise, the exhaust fumes, and the little nursing infants?
If so, I volunteer.
Thanks for not including TTIUWP.
“Every stupid place has to be femmed up.”
Don’t despair. I’m sure if a man identifies as a breast feeding woman they will let him in the pod. ; )
Yep - wife did it with our kids...amazing what a cloth can do to keep the over-sensitive/immature from getting a “thrill peek”...
I agree. Just bring a blanket. Sheesh.
“Another frontier for trans men to conquer ... Or, much more likely, sue over.”
It’s like a “tit for tat” story, huh?
Today, women don’t do it discretely. Breast feeding today is used as an excuse to show off their boobs to the world. Look at MEEEEEEEEEE!!!!
Last week, in Austin, TX, one cow was shirtless during a Kavanaugh protest on the hwy overpass bridge of a major street. Can’t arrest her because if men can go shirtless, so can women.
I have no idea why anyone would need a “pod” to breastfeed. That said, I also have no idea why people would bring a breastfeeding infant to a sporting event in the first place. Much too loud, screaming fans... certainly not optimal for a young child, much less an infant.
