The U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) is continuing to evaluate a proposal put forward by the U.S. Navy to procure two nuclear-powered Gerald R. Ford-class aircraft carriers under one contract as a cost- and time-saving measure.
“We are conducting an evaluation to ensure we have the warfighting capabilities to compete and win,” U.S. Deputy Defense Secretary Pat Shanahan was quoted as saying by Bloomberg News on October 19. “Any decision will factor in strengthening the industrial base and delivering best value for taxpayers.”
While U.S. Congress approved the block procurement in the 2019 National Defense Authorization Act, U.S. ship maker Huntington Ingalls Industries – Newport News Shipbuilding (HII-NNS), the Ford-class’ builder, has far failed to meet the U.S. Navy’s cost-cutting requirements. According to one U.S. Navy estimate, the service would save around $2.5 billion with a single buy....

Enterprise is an excellent name and should be carried on in the next generation.
I don’t think our 15 million invaders and the next 15 million invaders will be stopped by an aircraft carrier.

May as well name these carriers after Jim Acosta and Jorge Ramos.
As long as we’re at it, it would seem to make sense to pick up a dozen or so hunter-killer subs for whatever use could be found for them...

Keep Enterprise. We've had a carrier with that name dating from 1936-1947 and then with CVN 65 from '61-'17.
She would be the 9th ship named Enterprise.
The Navy likes tradition, usually. Look for a Lexington, Saratoga, Essex and Constellation. I don’t think Dubya is getting an aircraft carrier and Jimmy Carter already has a submarine. Maybe they can find a garbage scow or oiler to name after Mr. Obama.
Not to hijack the thread, but Mrs abb & I toured the National Naval Air Museum in Pensacola yesterday, and they have several artifacts from CV-6 Enterprise. Will make chill bumps rise on your arms...
