Skip to comments.Inside a Trump rally: Stelterís view from the press pen

The first thing you see at a Trump campaign rally is the line.
There was a long line in the pouring rain ahead of the October 26 rally in Charlotte, North Carolina. Some devotees had started lining up the night before. Others came straight from work on Friday afternoon and waited to be screened by the Secret Service. It had the look and feel of a political concert a celebration but with an angry edge.
Friday was my first time attending a Trump rally. I was two years too late. I should have gone to a rally in 2016. Im a media reporter, after all, and Trump is putting on a show at these campaign events, complete with a booming soundtrack and a grand finale that regular rallygoers know by heart.
Thats one of the things I noticed inside the Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte: Many of Trumps supporters knew the lyrics to his songs, meaning, his favorite stories. And sometimes they sang along by chanting CNN SUCKS and mouthing the words to his complaints about chain migration.
So heres what I observed. First of all, walking into the arena, a projection screen tells you to sign up for real news by following Trump on Twitter and Facebook.
But my impression is that most of the people at Fridays rally were already signed up. Numerous attendees told me this wasnt their first time at a Trump rally. Some of them said they appreciated that I was there.
Our conversations happened on two sides of a wall a metal barricade that divides the standing room part of the arena and the press pen. Youve probably seen this in pictures....

WTF is a “media reporter”?????
Stelter is a hack propagandist, at best.
He doesn’t report squat.
Just read it - time to take a shower, wash the dirt off
Stelter as a Zoo animal....
I’ll go with Jackal.
What do I win?
Dear Brain, those were NOT real bombs.....
Stelter is the “leader” of the anti-President Trump media.
Everybody lughs at him though.
Does anyone in media take responsibility for the consequences of their ignoring and belittling of the Constitutionally elected leader of out country?
Not that I knoe of.
The media in this country deserves the hatred they’re getting because they’re nothing but a propaganda wing for one particular political party. If Stelter would be honest with himself, which he obviously isn’t, he knows that his fellow reporters are not giving an objective, balanced view of the news to the American people.
Is this that pudgy little CNN dork with a head like a beach ball? I would get such an urge to kick it down the road if I got too near.
He looks like George Costanza
CNN IS FAKE News!
I also noted the rotten potatoes around him.
His widdew fewings got hurt, he has finally realized how much he is despised and ridiculed by millions.
Not a hyena?
Well I’ve got an idea. Why don’t you try being journalists instead of left wing political activists with cameras? Maybe then President Trump wouldn’t feel the need to hit back at you for attacking him all the time. Maybe then you wouldn’t be losing ever more of the American public and the public might not have an opinion of the MSM lower than that of perennial punching bag, Congress.
Have you ever considered that you might have caused this problem with your constant bias and outright lies rather than the other way around?
Needless to say, that didnt happen."
The flip side:
The NYTs Michael Barbaro tweeted on Friday: Imagine a world where the NY Times said: We would like to take a minute to say to all those who read the short stories we printed imaging the assassination of President Trump, our hearts go out to you,and his family. This should never have happened.
Needless to say, that didnt happen.
Jorge Costanza, un amigo idioto de Jerry Seinfeld en la TV.
Other than racing, could never sit for anything but Magnum PI and Miami Vice. Now with DVR/DVD, I sit for nothing other than Netflix DVDs. Wife owns the damn thing.
Makes for a difficult time here on FR where "everyone" knows about TV stuff but me.
