Another tragic mass shooting has taken place and, as usual, both sides are using it to further their political agenda. As the left blames guns and the right blames mental illness, both sides are completely missing the elephant in the room. If Ian David Long was diagnosed with PTSD, as reported, he was likely prescribed a slew of medications from the VA which have been tied to most every mass shooting in recent history.
According to his neighbors and family, Long suffered from PTSD. While those who suffer from PTSD can have a myriad of horrific symptoms, homicidal ideation is not one of them. However, the drugs the VA doles out to treat PTSD most certainly carry warnings just like this.
Like many of the recent mass shooters, Long was visited by police for acting irrational and displaying signs of aggression and violence before the shooting. He was most recently visited by police in April after neighbors reported hearing him screaming and sounds like he “was tearing down the walls with a hammer.”

I might agree with the concept...It's formulating a law that says "we Know no crime has been committed...but we're going to take away your gun....just in case you do something bad.

This article is garbage. They don’t even name the drugs prescribed because they obviously don’t know.
Looks like more red flag laws. Watch for states to require inclusion of anti-depressants to the controlled substance databases, or the Feds could make anti-depressants into controlled substances (level 5 like Lyrica) and they would be included.
This would allow state DOJs to troll through data for anti-depressants and index with other data lists that they have. So a disorderly conduct charge, restraining order and anti-depressant could trigger a gun confiscation process. Why do you think that government has pushed so hard for electronic records? Why do you think that Medicare for all is just another way for the government (as payer) to get your records? Remember the vets that were getting hassled about their gun ownership during Obama?

The VA? Why bring them into it? The VA docs are just following protocol. MDs do very little more that distribute for the pharmaceutical companies.
Most mass shootings are due to mood altering prescription drugs. That is the difference between now and forty years ago when this didn’t happen on a monthly basis

I despise them bringing this up in the context of veterans. War is horrific and no one exposed to it’s details is immune. However, there are hundreds of other ways for people to experience PTSD not related to war. Practically no one gets through life without it to a greater or lesser degree.
Zoloft, Paxil, Prozac, and Effexor - SSRIs and SNRIs - for “treating PYSD, have bad side-effects.
I just heard that he was mentally deranged in high school and the administration knew it. A story by one of his teachers where she found a cell phone and he went nuts to get it back, including being violent and groping and grabbing her, and the admin did nothing, didn’t even take him off his sports team. She does NOT believe it’s PTSD from his service. He was problematic long before.

You are right. I have very specific PTSD myself, in hospital and clinic settings where some procedure must be done. I didn’t know until recently that I have the red hair gene and that I genetically need more anesthetic. So I now make sure everyone knows because I find myself VERY ANXIOUS about feeling the knives, having felt them too many times. Seppukku is not pleasant.
They do push these drugs at the VA. Get upset when you don’t take them. Plus if you stop the symptoms get worse. A no win situation.
Your right. Vets are less likely to be crimnals. They don’t want that to upset their ptsd narrative.
