Within an hour of publishing our last Portland company jobs roundup, several business leaders reached out with a question.
Here's the gist: "We're hiring too, any chance we can get into the next such story?"
Which is why we decided to accelerate our planned "who's hiring" update (we tend to run them seasonally), including a few companies that we've featured in the past along with the new outfits that saw fit to contact us. You can get jump into the websites of more than 20 companies looking to bring on hundreds of new hirees.
One of those companies is TEC Equipment, , which specializes in full-service truck and trailer work. We asked Jeff Eyman, the company's chief human resources officer, why his firm is growing.
Does your hiring reflect that the manufacturing sector in Portland is going strong? Maybe it's related to manufacturing, but just movement of products on the highways is extremely high. These trucking company fleets need heavy-duty trucks and trailers to meet their customers' demand.
North America heavy-duty truck manufacturing as well as trailer manufacturing is at an all-time high across all brands. Volvo and Mack have radically new designs for 2019, and we cannot get enough to match customer demand. Like with all industries, there are high-low cycles. We are definitely in a high cycle right now.
What type of skills is TEC seeking as you head into the next few years? Diesel technicians, trailer technicians, collision center skills, parts distribution and sales along with corporate group skills, suchy as accounting, IT, HR, etc.).
What sorts of training is out there to help develop workers who fit your needs? There are trade schools specializing in diesel mechanics, welding and fabrication, among other skills. There are community colleges that offer those programs ... plus, there's on-the-job training for those who have an aptitude and want to learn

That’s a lot of openings, and it seem that they would be well paying jobs at that.
These types of stories are going to dry up real soon between rising interest rates; no more tax cuts; Democrat strangulation of the economy; and Democrat tying the administration up in knots, subpoenas, and impeachment for the next two years.
Enjoy them while we can. The party is over.

They only do those things when they aren’t wearing black, manning the barricades, and smashing normal people in the head.
Portland still has business? They better be well paying jobs with the cost of housing up there. New construction of houses and roads is verboten in regressiveville.

Where does he work at? I've been working part time at their package sort hub at DFW for the past 10 months. Gets me out of the house, keeps me fit, especially when it's hot outside.
Most of my coworkers are seasoned citizens...we get a kick out of youngsters that don't make it through orientation. A couple of weeks ago, a new worker was put next to me to see what we do in "debag", i.e. unload the bags of small packages that are sent for sorting at DFW.
After one hour, I guess he learned that wasn't the job for him...he didn't come back the next day! lol
We have a fair amount of college kids that work with us, too. UPS has a great tuition reimbursement plan, up to $5K a year.
I agree. With the coming Dem super-majority in the Oregon legislature, we’ll soon see a sales tax, new corporate taxes, and environmental regulations that will strangle this state.
