When I was young I was a math major. Math was always singular. The first time I heard the word “maths” was from an Indian.
WOW! The quants are back.
Two of the most famous quants Robert C. Merton and Myron S. Scholes, both winners of the Nobel Prize in Economics for their work on option pricing were directors of Long Term Caspital Management, a company known for quants who could predict the future. Their predictions are about as accurate as the predictions of “climate scientists.”
A quant has as a minimum a Ph.D. in economics or finance with heavy emphasis on mathematical and statistical modeling or a Ph.D. in physics or engineering. Their models are clear, concise, and very elegant. But the models don’t take into account human behavior, a coup in
Egypt, the rise of Chavez, and so forth and so on.
