Donald Trump insists the GOP’s midterm election shellacking had nothing to do with him. Things will be different, he says, when his name is actually on the ballot in 2020.
While it’s true that most presidents who see their party suffer major losses in their first midterm election get reelected anyway, Trump isn’t most presidents — and there are lots of blaring-red warning lights in this month’s election results for his bid for a second term.
Unlike most of his predecessors, he’s been persistently unpopular, with approval ratings mired in the 40-percent range — so far, he’s the only president in the modern era whose job approval ratings have never been over 50 percent, according to Gallup.
Some of Democrats’ biggest gains came in the states that powered Trump’s Electoral College victory in 2016: Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. And while a president’s base has stayed home in previous midterm elections, leading to losses, the record turnout in this year’s races suggests 2018 was more like a 2016 re-run than Trump voters standing on the sidelines.
Thus far, even Trump loyalists in the party haven’t seen the president expand his electoral base beyond core Republicans.

Polling is to influence public opinion, not measure public opinion. I think Trump’s real approval is north of 50%, but the MSM can’t report that. “Polls” are manipulated to ensure sub-50% approval.
Loss of the House was a blow but the gains in the Senate give Trump a firewall and ensure all important judicial and executive nominations will be easy confirmed.
Plus GOP governors friendly to Trump will control the election machinery in critical OH and FL in 2020.
Too soon to count him down and out.

Yes and Hillary Clinton has a 95% chance of winning. Why even the Mourning Schmoe said Trump won’t even run, or was that his living current girlfriend - so hard to keep these things straight.

In 2016 he got 63 Million votes, Hillary got close to that in legal ballots. If just one in four Trump voters would make the effort to convert or recruit a new voter during the next two years we could add as many as 15 MILLION to the last turnout. Our numbers would be staggering and the democrats would be demolished.

Must reconnect with the Rust Belt, especially MI, WI and PA.
Still boggles my mind how any halfway sane American citizen can vote for any RAT at this critical point!!!
Hopefully, the economy remains healthy enough and that relative peace in keeping radical Islamic terrorism at bay will serve to bolster President Trump reelection bid in 2020.

There is some truth to this concern but they also don’t mention that Trump’s approval has exceeded Obama’s at comparable times, and that Trump avoided the midterm “shellacking” suffered by Obama. Considering all House seats are up in every election, that is a difficult bellwether to ignore.
Although I would prefer a landslide, if Trump wins a 2nd term with a popular vote minority, EV majority again I would love how it would just kill the Dems.
You folks forget the American voter is a fickle bunch almost like a Schizophrenic....One minute they want things one way and the next another way..I am not sure Trump can win reelection especially in these Rust belt states..
