Are you passionate about history? Do you enjoy research, writing, editing, or formatting? If so, you should consider Project 78.
Project 78 is the development of a top-notch quality history curriculum, specifically designed to meet the needs of Christian home-school students and families. The project has seven key values that will define our goals for this curriculum. We will create a curriculum that is accurate, objective, thorough, simple, memorable, adaptable, and affordable.
In addition to history, this project will also create supplemental courses in economics, American government, and geography.
Project 78 is the project of a team of entrepreneurs, called the Rough Writers. Why the Rough Writers? Well, if you are thinking it is because our style is rough and unpolished, that is not the case. We strive for perfection in all things, including our writing style. If you are thinking it is because we are as dedicated, daring, and determined as Teddy's band that charged wildly up San Juan hill, then you are closer to the truth.
There is room in Project 78 for more Rough Writers. Are you interested in any of the following?
- Writing
- Researching history
- Revising/editing
- Textbook formatting
- Miscellaneous tasks related to the development of curriculum
- Developing other curricula related to government, economics, and geography
- Marketing/Sales
Because this is a team project, you do not need to be a good writer to be a Rough Writer. In fact, you do not need to be a writer at all; you could work in some of the other tasks. If you are motivated to write, but you arent very good at it, you can still be of excellent service to the Rough Writers; we can help you polish your style.
What are the advantages of being a Rough Writer?
Well, if you are looking for an immediate good-paying job, you wont find it here. Were not making any money at the moment and we wont for a while. When you work alongside us as a Rough Writer, you will earn for yourself a share in the company once we incorporate. This is a for-profit endeavor, and you will have a share in the profits, if you see this project through to the end. (If you drop out before we incorporate, you may or may not receive some financial reward for your work, but no share in the company and no guarantees. It may depend upon the success of the enterprise.) Hopefully the profit margin will be fairly decent, since were saving quite a bit by not paying ourselves for R&D.
In addition to a financial reward, theres also the intrinsic benefits of being a part of Project 78. You will learn quite a lot about history, for one thing, and you will sharpen your skills and gain experience working with a team on a writing project. Its also a lot of fun.
And last, but not least, theres the fact that you will be serving Christ by preserving true history.
Now the really serious question:
Do you have what it takes to be a Rough Writer?
The most important thing is that you must be passionate and motivated. You cant work for years on a project without immediate financial returns unless you are passionate and motivated.
You will need to be willing to take a risk with your time and labor, to pour into an enterprise that has no guarantee of success.
You dont have to agree with us about everything. We will have differences of opinion. But you must be upright in character. You must have honesty, integrity, self-discipline, respect, compassion, patience, and humility. If you are not perfect in these virtues, you still can join (none of us are perfect either) but you have to be willing to listen, learn, and improve.
Thats really about it. As for a time commitment, you just need to put in the time that you want to put in. Theres no limit to how much or how little time you can put in. The more you put into this project, the larger your share will be when the company incorporates, but there are no limits.
As for skills, I addressed that above. Enthusiasm and motivation is far more useful to this project than skill, because skills can be improved and helped along by a team, but theres no substitute for motivation.
We have a meeting once per month via Hangouts; you should do your best to try to attend those meetings, though you dont necessarily have to commit to each and every one. We try to schedule a time that works for everyone.
If you are interested in becoming a Rough Writer, send a private message to Sopater. I will be happy to put you in touch with someone who can answer any questions that you have.

Sounds like a very interesting project Sopater!
I’ll pass it on to my wife, a 30-year veteran of Public Schools and a Conservative Christian to boot!

I admire what you are doing, but we homeschooled our daughter for 11 of her 12 years at home and found a mix of David Barton and Wall Builders along with Abeka filled every possible need we had. Having access to older encyclopedias written in the 1960's or before, contained less PC revisions and contained more original material to see the truth. Our daughter went on to college and majored in Political Science and minored in Psychology.
Today, when we see a quote from a Founder, it may have a "..." mixed in with the quote, but when we seek out the original quote, it usually has a mention of God or a Bible verse where the "..." is inserted. They don't want your child to realize that the founders were solid Christians and our country was founded on Biblical principles. Today's books are probably written after the 1970's and 80's and are about a third the thickness that the author first wrote. Alexis de Tocqueville Democracy in America today is about half the thickness of the one I read in school. If one of the main deductions he came to about our success was that the nation was a Christian nation, how can a new reader get that from a new version that leaves out the verbiage that proves that?
Wall Builders has more original texts written by the actual person than even the Smithsonian. You can buy video's and books that are exact copies of what the original author said. Newer versions seem to deduce that the Founders were deists or even atheistic when it's so easy to prove otherwise. Abeka's history was so beautiful, my wife and I would watch the video's with my daughter and weep. I grew up in the '1950's and 60's, so my school books were very accurate and raised up freedom loving citizens that knew how this country was formed. God bless what you are doing, but it's probably easier to just subscribe to David Barton and Abeka than to redesign the wheel.

My four grandchildren are all homeschooled and are turning into some the finest people one could ever hope for.
And yes they are Trump supporters like their parents and grandparents.

I hope the curriculum is more accurate than to portray the “Rough Riders” charging up Kettle Hill (not San Juan) on horseback. TR was the only one who had a horse.
