The government in France put out the word Wednesday night that the fuel tax would be suspended not just for six months, but for all of next year (2019).
The leader of the opposition National Rally (former National Front) Marine Le Pen tweeted late Wednesday night that President Emmanuel Macron should pledge on his honor not to reintroduce the tax wit the amended budget in the spring.
Whether this apparent concession will help stamp out protests is uncertain.
Four have died and hundreds have been injured in the weeks of protests by the "yellow vests" but now high school and university students with separate grievances than those of the "yellow vests" are organizing and staging on campus protests shutting down schools across France.
They are pledging to take to the streets this Saturday with those protesting against the fuel taxes that have already sharply increased the cost of gasoline and diesel fuel.
If that scenario materializes it will put France's special riot police (the CRS) under more pressure perhaps forcing them to increase the tempo of tear gas, stun grenade and water cannon attacks on protesters.
The Elysee Palace (the Presidential Residence-Office) put out the word Wednesday night that it fears a group of thousands coming to Paris on Saturday to kill and destroy or as the Google translation of the BFM-TV report put it:
"to break and kill"
In an interview on BFM-TV Thursday morning, a minister in the government, Jacqueline Gorault, warned against travel to Paris on Saturday claiming that people bent on violence were coming to the city. Her message appears to be an attempt to suppress demonstrators from showing up by sowing fear.
Social media is filled with calls for protesters to converge on the "Main Street" of Paris, the Champs-Elysees, on Saturday.
A poll done for BFM-TV shows 72 percent public support for the "yellow vests" protest.
Some 15 high schools in Paris were the site of blockades Thursday morning with an attempt to block the city's Sorbonne University by 40 people failing.

The only surprise is that the original statement said a suspension of the tax for six months...putting it right up to the date of the EU election in the spring. No shocker for them to realize that was a very poor decision. So now....a full year.
Macron has burnt just about each bridge that he’s crossed...today, if you held the election...he’d probably only clear 15-percent of the national vote (if this were opened up to the dozen-odd political parties that exist).
He is done. Stepped on his “ Johnson “ and there is no going back. He needs to call out the Gendarmerie now.
Of course the tax is going to be reintroduced.
Socialist are firm believers in the carrot and stick method of government.
They use financial incentives to get people to do what the government wants. Subsidize what you want more of and tax what you want less of.
The government wants the people to stay home and freeze in the dark, so they are going to tax the H out of fuel.
The Macron needs to meet La Guillotine and the people need to end the government.
A caller to Rush’s show (a substitute) said he and his daughter visited Paris a few days ago, in the thick of the protests. The protestors were shouting, “Trump! Trump!” Of course, our MSM edited that out.
So... What are the students’ “grievances”?
I heard about that as well from a friend and yep, our Pravda media completely ignores it. The US media is like North Korea now when it comes to news, you literally have to seek outside sources to get the real news.

Now BFMTV says left-wing parties within the French parliament have agreed to discuss a no confidence vote against Mr Macron’s government. The French Communist Party and the Socialist Party are leading the rebellion.
First Secretary of the Socialist Party Olivier Faure wrote on Twitter: “We’ve decided to work together to file a no confidence vote [to the government] next Monday. During the coming days, we will seek to increase the number of signatories. We have to show that other ways are possible.”
