Checkout this .300BLK AR Pistol, yes pistol. But, its not an AR pistol with a short-barreled and a brace instead of a buttstock. This custom made gun can actually be shot and carried like a handgun.
Elijah Duray of Eagan, Minnesota is the builder of this almost look a like Han Solo blaster. His .300 Blackout pistol on an AR-15 platform weighs about 38 ounces, which is about the same as a 1911 pistol.
Elijah saids he built this as a side project with the hunter in mind, but a little different. But, I think this would make a fantastic survival gun. When you look at it youll notice there isn't any buffer tube.
The gun is not a semi-auto, but a straight-pull bolt action with a side-mounting charging handle acting as the bolt handle. Yes, its a manual.
"You dont need a gas block, a gas tube, you dont need a hand guard, you dont need a normal charging handle, you only need half a bolt carrier you dont need most of your gas key, you dont need your bolt catch, your buffer tube, your buffer, your spring, all these part that you can eliminate by making it a straight-pull bolt action pistol," says Elijah. I hope he is a class III FFL and has all his paperwork together.
The BATF will classify this as a undersized/shortened rifle.
A felony if not done correctly.
Clever, but truly a “last resort” weapon. Making it a semi-auto would only require a buffer tube. Wouldn’t be too much longer. The gun industry is growing in leaps and bound in terms of innovations. Some good, some great.
.300 Blackout: 2010/2011.
'Nother fail there, Jon.
Not for the limp wristed
? No stock, so it should be OK, no?
I’ve seen lots of rifle-caliber pistols, so is it an issue?
Whats the difference between this and the old Thomson Contender?
More of a proof of concept thing.
No such thing.
Of course you must have meant: "I hope he has a Type 07 FFL (Manf of firearms other than destructive devices) and also has his Class II Special Occupational Tax (SOT) (Manufacturer of Firearms (Including Any Other Weapon).
FYI.. Class III SOT is a dealer. Class II SOT is MFG. (which can also be a dealer FYI).
Solo’s blaster was first an 1896 Broomhandle Mauser.
Captain Malcolm Reynolds’ gun started as a Taurus model 85.
Well, no. Google on "AR Pistol" and see for yourself.
There are a couple companies producing similar products. Veritas Tactical makes 5.56 and 300 Blackout “pistols” that are almost this small. I don’t like them because those rounds don’t fully burn by the time they exit a 5” barrel. That sized AR platform should be 9mm, IMHO.
There was another pistol that was designed around a rifle bullet The FN Five-SeveN, in 5.7x28mm and held 20 rounds.
Bingo. Mauser c96 that is.
