This is interesting; did you know that Mexico has specific financial criteria for obtaining residency?

If you plan to live, work, or retire in Mexico, Mexican Immigration Law stipulates that applicants for residency must fulfill certain criteria, including financial criteria.  The financial criteria are intended to ensure that people applying for residency have the means to sustain themselves in Mexico.

Seems reasonable enough: the financial criteria are intended to ensure that people applying for residency have the means to sustain themselves in Mexico, rather than live off the benevolence of the people of Mexico. Reasonable of course unless Trump applies that same criteria to U.S. policy.

The Trump administration announced Monday that it is moving ahead with one of its most aggressive steps to restrict legal immigration, denying green cards to many immigrants who use Medicaid, food stamps, housing vouchers or other forms of public assistance.

“We want to see people coming to this country who are self-sufficient,” Cuccinelli said. “That’s a core principle of the American dream. It’s deeply embedded in our history, and particularly our history related to legal immigration.” – NPR

In that case of course it’s racist. Because Orange Man Bad…and racist.

Many European countries as well as Australia, New Zealand, and Japan have immigration criteria that requires the applicant to prove financial sufficiency prior to approval.

It’s not just those with their hands out for free assistance, it’s the ones behind them telling them how to work out system, who make a living out of helping others use our government resources as a charity. Our government is not a charity and charitable assistance should come for charities not the government. If a charity includes faith teaching in its work all the better as a moral people work harder and love better because they understand how to get along with others and take responsibility for themselves.

Yes, I am old fashioned and proud to be so.

This was easy to find:

Unlike some foreign countries, you do not need a job offer to immigrate to Canada. There are programs available for you that allow you to apply for permanent residency in Canada without securing employment beforehand. You can apply for permanent residence if you are considered a Skilled Worker.

In order to immigrate to Canada as a Federal Skilled Worker you need to meet the following minimum criteria: At least one year of continuous full-time (30 hours per week) or an equal amount in part-time, paid work experience within the last ten years in an O, A or B occupation. Pass an approved language test.

This was required of my grandfather when he immigrated here from Denmark in 1899. Of course this requirement wasn’t racist since he was a Dane.

When Hong Kong was being turned over to China so many years ago, the people were fleeing the island to other countries.

Canada, our neighbor, did what many good countries do: they accept potential new citizens from Hong Kong based on:

Their:
1. Educational background and what that family adds to Canada
2. Financial assets that the family can bring into the country of Canada

This is what a smart country does.
