Religion at heart of resistance in the age of Trump
United Press International ^ | September. 13. 2019 | Ali A Olomi, Religion News Service

"They hate religion," New York Times columnist Timothy Egan wrote recently in a column titled "Why People Hate Religion," "because, at a moment to stand up and be counted on the right side of history, religion is used as moral cover for despicable behavior."

This is true only if you see religion as synonymous with white evangelical Christianity, the group that, polls confirm, shows high support for President Donald Trump. While Egan tips his hat to Catholics who are doing charitable work, it's clear that by "religion" he means the religious right.

But there are many of us people of faith in America as well who are taking a stand on the right side of history. Religion, in fact, is at the heart of resistance in the age of Trump. In an era where historic structural injustices have become mainstream policy, many turn to religion as a moral compass and inspiration for activism.

This includes communities of color and minorities of faith working tirelessly as on-the-ground activists every day, despite being singled out for abuse by the administration.

A Muslim-led fundraising project has raised more than $150,000 for bail of parents detained in immigration jails. The Muslims for Migrants campaign is dedicating the money to pay bond for immigrants caught up in the xenophobic and oppressive policy that targets desperate families. They have so far contributed to the release of 10 parents.

They don’t hate religion. Leftistism is the most dogmatic religion on the planet, after all.

They hate believing Christianity.

Should someone brief this idiot that ecclesiastical restrictions are the only thing keeping Democrat animals alive?

Eugenic solutions would simplify political discussion.

Isn’t satire supposed to be labelled as such? I’m confused.

Trump: "Yet today, 240 years after the Revolution, we have turned things completely upside-down." - Donald Trump

And it's not just about jobs and economic opportunity. It's about freedom, exercise of "Creator-endowed rights and liberties," and opportunity for each citizen, not just self-appointed elitists who fancy themselves as entitled to make decisions for all.

See this web site, at which Richard Frothingham's outstanding 1872 "History of the Rise of the Republic of the United States" may be read on line.

This 600+-page history traces the ideas which gave birth to the American founding. Throughout, Richard Frothingham, the historian, develops the idea that it is "the Christian idea of man" which allowed the philosophy underlying the Declaration of Independence and Constitution to become a reality--an idea which recognizes the individual and the Source of his/her "Creator"-endowed life, liberty and law.

Is there any wonder that the enemies of freedom, the so-called "progressives," do not promote such authentic histories of America? Their philosophy puts something called "the state," or "global interests" as being superior to individuals and requires a political elitist group to decide what role individuals are to play.

In other words, they must turn the Founders' ideas upside-down in order to achieve a common mediocrity for individuals and power for themselves.

Thomas Jefferson wrote to Roger Weightman on June 24, 1826:

" I should, indeed, with peculiar delight, have met and exchanged there congratulations personally with the small band, the remnant of that host of worthies, who joined with us on that day, in the bold and doubtful election we were to make for our country, between submission or the sword; and to have enjoyed with them the consolatory fact, that our fellow citizens, after half a century of experience and prosperity, continue to approve the choice we made. may it be to the world, what I believe it will be, (to some parts sooner, to others later, but finally to all,) the Signal of arousing men to burst the chains, under which monkish ignorance and superstition had persuaded them to bind themselves, and to assume the blessings & security of self-government. That form which we have substituted, restores the free right to the unbounded exercise of reason and freedom of opinion. all eyes are opened, or opening, to the rights of man. the general spread of the light of science has already laid open to every view. the palpable truth, that the mass of mankind has not been born with saddles on their backs, nor a favored few booted and spurred, ready to ride them legitimately, by the grace of god. these are grounds of hope for others. for ourselves, let the annual return of this day forever refresh our recollections of these rights, and an undiminished devotion to them."

What makes the author think that evangelicals aren't engaged in charitable activity? He is parading his ignorance and his prejudice. I contribute to several Christian charities run by evangelicals, so I actually know what I'm talking about.

Evangelicals did not vote for - or endorse - Trump's past marital infidelities or his divorces, or for his brash style, but for his policies designed to help restore the middle class, protect the unborn, protect free speech and religious freedom, and secure the borders against an unrestricted surge of illegal immigration.

Democrats, on the other hand, stand for the unrestricted slaughter of the unborn, for the mainstreaming of sexual perversity, the erosion and elimination of the freedoms enshrined in the Bill of Rights, the intrusion of the federal government into every aspect of life, and the end of the USA as a sovereign nation.

Besides his name, some anti America writers* often use a certain word to describe how evil Americans are.

What is that word in the sentence below:

The Muslims for Migrants campaign is dedicating the money to pay bond for immigrants caught up in the xenophobic and oppressive policy that targets desperate families.

*Muslim and/or ChiCom writers.

The religion of socialism, national socialism, and communism killed millions of people in the 20th century. Why do they think that is the right side of history?

I went through Hurricane Katrina in Biloxi, Mississippi. Most of the help we received was from religious organizations such as Baptist Charities, the Salvation Army and others.

He likes only when white people give money (charity)

There is no morality this twit is espousing. He should try his “religion” in Mexico or his immigration beliefs in Iran or North Korea. Perhaps he could try getting Quebec to change its language to be Spanish for proper diversity and inclusion.

In short this guy is exactly why people hate religion - because they rotted following God and preaching the Word to the masses in favor of popularity contests and feel-goodism. When it comes to God or their personal beliefs, they’ll choose their personal beliefs over Gods - every time.

SOME Catholics actually think helping bring Illegals to US is “charity”

Me neither. I have read where the Catholic church is one of the most wealthy in the world? I could be wrong, as usual.

Who says they are on the right side of history? Who is “history”, anyway? Better to be on the right side of God.
