Democratic leaders Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer warned President Donald Trump on Sunday that any firearm legislation that falls short of universal background checks for gun sales “will not get the job done,” complicating delicate negotiations between the president and a group of senators.
Trump has been discussing potential legislation with senators in both parties that would expand background checks but would not go as far as House-passed legislation that would apply them to all gun sales with limited exceptions. Trump issued a veto threat on the House’s background-checks bill earlier this year, and few Republicans in Congress support it.
But in a conversation with Trump on Sunday morning, the House speaker and Senate minority leader indicated to Trump that they were taking a much harder line than rank-and-file senators involved in the talks.
“This morning, we made it clear to the president that any proposal he endorses that does not include the House-passed universal background checks legislation will not get the job done, as dangerous loopholes will still exist and people who shouldn’t have guns will still have access,” Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Schumer (D-N.Y.) said in a joint statement.

Exactly - how are these “universal” background checks going to be enforced? Criminals already buy guns without such a check (and/or steal them).
In most states, there is no gun registry- so how will the government know if you seel your old 870 shotgun to your neighbor or brother, give it as a gift, or trade it for something you will use more? There is NO way... without universal registration.
But one problem - even where they have registration... criminals don’t register their guns!
Is anyone SERIOUSLY feeling threatened by Schumer? He’s an obnoxious blowhard elected by idiots mostly from NYC. Beyond his local geography, he’s worse than a joke.
This is where he needs to lead and not let the dems set the agenda. His second term hinges on shutting down any notion of gun control. Anything less and no second term.
The idea that "Universal Background Checks" will stop dangerous people from having access to guns has been shown to be false, repeatedly.
Most mass killers that used guns either passed background checks or accessed a gun by stealing it.
A couple have made their own guns.
The ability to make your own gun renders "universal background checks" meaningless in itself.
Those who wish us disarmed want "universal background checks" to get to universal gun registration.

They’re counting on the Toddlers in the White House and the Deep Staters to convince Trump that the Soccer Moms (a group he’s stuggling with) will be turned on by suicidal gun control. A long shot on their part (the Dems), but not much downside for them - Beto has been a much bigger downside for them.
