That's not really accurate. They are closer than they have ever been to getting their end game enabling gun laws passed. Look at the dynamic, Democrats are stoking their base with declarations of disarming america, while Republicans are trying to sound sane by opening that door. They may not get their foot in the door this time, but if we don't start to hear some form of push back, they will before the end if the Trump presidency.
