Who Needs Walmart? Buy Ammo by the Pound in Texas.
All Outdoor ^ | 12 September 2019 | Russ Chastain

By now, we all know that Walmart has decided to stop selling certain types of ammunition because some people think it’s more scary than other kinds, which they will continue to sell… and many folks hail this as a victory of sorts for “Main Street America,” i.e. the small independent gun shops that will benefit from increased business as shooters buy ammo from them instead of Walmart.

Meanwhile, a shooting range in Texas has started to sell ammo by the pound and trolled Walmart about it.

Alpine Shooting Range decided to sell ammo from dispensers and charge by the pound. It more or less coincided with the Walmart announcement, so they decided to ride the wave of that story.

Since drunk driving causes tens of thousands of deaths each year and smoking causes hundreds of thousands, when is Walmart going to stop selling tobacco and liquor?

I am trying to buy as little as possible without paying a lot more. I used to do all my grocery shopping at the super center. I checked at Winn Dixie and unfortunately they were high. I did find a good deal on a chuck roast tho.

I am going to start buying beef there but for canned and boxed essentials WalMart is cheaper, often much cheaper.

There is one thing Walmart is awful on. They make their own donuts at a good price but they taste like dough, dough which has not been cooked.

Just a few blocks down the road is a Duncans. Theirs are delicious but over a dollar each for cream filled.

Sometimes I treat myself to a half dozen. not often though.

Food Lion has the best produce...much better than WM produce. Price is competitive.

We have either HEB (a Texas chain grocer) or Walmart in the whole county. Our HEB stocks the rejects from other stores, ugh. As a result it will have empty shelves or an entire aisle of mustard so the grocery list is never all purchased. The family is always asking why I didn’t get xyz. Hey, welcome to the US version of Venezuela. It’s prices are cheaper than Walmart so I’ll buy canned goods but will drive 3 towns over to Walmart for fresh produce.

Sadly, Walmart doesn’t have reduced to sale that day on their meats anymore. I now have to watch for meat sales at HEB but the meat counter is teeny tiny and hardly ever has more than 2-4 packages each on the very basic cuts. I have to make them go to the back for more meat and dairy. They did have chuck roasts for $2.99 most of the summer so filled the freezer with those. I did happen to catch a couple of manager specials recently on sausage for 50 cents/lb. so grabbed as much as they’d let have. Now, it’s back to 50 cent/lb bags of chicken quarters.

Cool! I grew up about a mile from this place back in the 70s, close enough to hear it.

They might want to think about the ladders they sell. And power tools, knives, bicycles, skateboards, etc, etc, etc.

Hey Yard Dog.

I have been using HEB for years and have not encountered any of the problems you mentioned. I like HEB. Their customer service is outstanding.

My HEB is one of their “Superstores” and is always good.

Just go on up I-35 to Cabela's. You go right past the old Cheaper Than Dirt but they're internet only now.
