Pot Bill Tokes the Line on Public Safety
Family Research Council ^ | September 30, 2019 | Tony Perkins and FRC senior writers

When the alarm went off at Jennifer Hrobuchak's work, the 22-year-old district manager didn't think twice. She got in her car in the early morning hours and headed off to the store to investigate. The new college graduate, who had hoped to have a career saving people from drugs, never saw the man run through the red light straight at her. At 82 miles per hour, he slammed Jennifer's car across the road into a building that crushed and killed her. After seven years of telling the story, her mom, Corinne, still gets emotional. And it's no wonder. The man who hit her was high on marijuana and walked away from the scene completely unharmed. Her daughter never walked anywhere again.

There are thousands of stories like Jennifer's. Agonized parents like Jeffrey Veatch's whose son died snorting heroin, only after marijuana experimentation led him there. After the unimaginable pain of losing a child, the idea that anyone would make it easier for kids to get addicted to pot is hard for any of them to fathom. And yet, last Wednesday, in the U.S. House, more than 300 members of Congress put their names behind a bill that would help legitimize a business that's destroying and endangering lives.

It was the first ever vote on a stand-alone cannabis bill, not that the name would have told you so. The SAFE Banking Act, one of the more ridiculously named pieces of legislation in the Democratic House, would make it easier for marijuana companies to "open checking accounts and get business loans." Pot companies argue that it would make the entire market safer, since they tend to operate on a "cash-only basis" or pay sky-high fees to the banks who are willing to work with them . . .

LOL!

Yes, in the name of Public Safety, let’s create more crimes.

Marijuana is here to stay and it is big business.
Failing to acknowledge this and create a system where people can engage in meaningful commerce will just create a repeat of the failed Prohibition attempts in our history which left so many dead, imprisoned and ruined by a failed Social Experiment.

I have been known to vape cannabis... but only under extreme social pressure. My governor recently outlawed nicotine vape products, but the indica and sativa 98% thc is still on the shelf.

My guy who owns a convince store had to throw out 13k of legal product last week because Charlie Baker said so.

Some times wrong is just wrong no matter how hard you try to justify it.

The frigging ice man found in a glacier in the Alps was holding cannabis when he got an arrow through the head.

5,000 years ago.

Horrible and tragic. Irresponsible morons, even homicidal maniacs have always plagued society.

Glad they aren’t outlawing alcohol ir cars because of the drunk drivers. Or guns because of the murderers.

“Fentanyl is here to stay and it is big business, and in the name of freedom....”

Fentanyl is illegal and a substitute product people do not buy intentionally. Marijuana is legal in about half of the country.

The reason for their different statuses is that one is deadly and the other is not.

As to your statement about abortion, I don’t see how that has anything to do with your earlier argument.

Yeah, those Scythians were really into it — amongst others of course. (Burning Bushes, anybody?)

How does it compare to pot smoking? Are prices of legal pot down compared to before legalization? Is illegal pot still widely available, and is it cheaper?

Marijuana causes brain damage, psychosis and schizophrenia.

Big Marijuana, which used to be known as Big Tobacco, has effectively convinced the public that dope is good for you when it is worse than tobacco.

Yes. I have seen its effect up close on siblings and coworkers.

Soon many more people will die on the public roads for this cause.

You laugh?

Legalizing it is itself a social experiment!

Have you seen up close what it does? I have. Do you know anything of the biochemistry? I do.

THC is more insidious and enduring in effect than alcohol.

I agree, the pot grown out there now is so much higher in THC, which in many borderline users can induce psychosis.
