Meghan McCain and Hillary Clinton don’t have much in common, but this morning on The View, they finally agreed on one thing: cyberterrorism is a very real threat to American democracy. During the wide-ranging interview with Clinton and her daughter Chelsea, McCain asked whether she is “concerned that WikiLeaks and Facebook could end up influencing voters and tipping the scales again” in the 2020 election. Despite their tense relationship — McCain once called the former Secretary of State “crooked” on-air — Clinton sided with the conservative co-host, saying, “WikiLeaks became an instrument of Russian intelligence.” Yelled McCain across the table, “Thank you for agreeing with me!”
Clinton and her daughter may have stopped by to discuss their new book, The Book of Gutsy Women, but, as you can imagine, things quickly turned to President Trump. The Democratic candidate again insisted that Trump is “an illegitimate president” — she’s repeated the line throughout the press tour this week — and slammed him as “someone who has to dominate and be the only voice in the room.” The discussion then veered towards the 2020 election, and McCain asked about the potential for outside interference. “We all know that Facebook had a defining factor in the last election,” said the conservative firebrand. “Are you concerned that WikiLeaks and Facebook could end up influencing voters and tipping the scales again?”
