ENDICOTT (WBNG) — BAE Systems says it is planning to hire one hundred new employees before the end of 2019. The announcement was made Wednesday morning during BAE Systems’ media day, where professionals showcased much of the new environmentally-friendly technology being developed right here in the Southern Tier.

The company is currently developing ground-breaking technology that they hope will eventually eliminate emissions from public transit vehicles.

The technology is meant to convert buses, marine vessels, and even planes to run on hybrid motors. Executives with BAE Systems say they hope to convert these vehicles to run completely on electric within the next decade.

“A hybrid engine that’s probably going to be in service by the end of the next decade. So, we’re looking at 2029 or 2030. While it seems like it’s ten years away, it’s not very far,” said V.P. of Controls and Avionics Ehtisham Siddiqui.

Regarding the new job opportunities, BAE says they’d like to hire high-tech professionals, particularly those with engineering and manufacturing experience.
