I received a speeding ticket tonight.

Posted on 01/18/2020 7:27:06 PM PST by ebshumidors

I received a speeding ticket tonight coming up hwy 7 from Ole Miss to Memphis. Since I haven’t had one in ten years or so, I found a few tings interesting:

1. The police were in the opposite lane and must have locked on without sitting on the side of the road with a radar gun. I imagine they have some new stuff that uses their speed against an oncoming car’s speed. Not hard to solve, but I’ve never run into it before. 2. Since it was at night, after I pulled over, I put on the overhead lights, rolled down the window and put my hands on the steering wheel. When the officer approached, he made sure to stay at my 8 o’clock. This is also new. 3. All he asked for was my license. No insurance and registration. I guess those are in the computer. 4.. There was no ticket book. It was a computer printout. 5. The officer was polite and all of my USNA parent and Ole Miss stickers didn’t help. I’m wondering if Marshall county offers a veteran’s discount.

See if they allow a defensive driving course to wipe the ticket from your record.

Congrats on your speeding ticket.

I haven't had one since the late 1990s but I do keep working at it. They always seem to catch the other guy.

I’m not worried about that since I haven’t had a ticket in ten years. The last time I went to driving school was when I lived in CA and did 65 in a 55. I explained how the interstates were designed for 70mph and the class was stupid. The instructor told me that if I didn’t sing the party line, I wouldn’t graduate. Early ‘90’s. Yes, your, highness. Nothing but a money grab.

The military affiliations mean less and less as you get closer to a military base, IMHO. (The military connection is less of a novelty.)

It's been years since I've been in the area, but I still think that Millington would play a prominent role in the local economy.

Radars that LE have are much improved over years. Computerized to moniter the cops speed, if he is moving, and calculate the difference. I guess it can track more than one vehicle at a time and label it on the screen, if I’ve been told correctly by my retired LE brother.

If you really are nostalgic for a ticket just buy a real sports car.
Not a Corvette, Audi, or some Japanese wann-be, a REAL sports car.
Then you will not even have to beak any laws to be ticketed.

In Texas you can plead to deferred adjudication. It’s basically the same price as a speeding ticket but it does not go on your record. Furthermore you do not have to spend all day in a defensive driving class.

Running radar has been around a long time; 25 years at least. They also have a hand held device where the radar is on standby until they hit the button. It makes radar detectors useless. When I was a reserve cop I rode with guys who could tell how fast an oncoming car was going within a mile an hour before actually clocking the car.

I got one in Montana a couple years ago. The trooper was very friendly. Even though he gave me a ticket, we had a very pleasant conversation and shared a couple laughs.

After I got home to Maryland, I called the court to see if I could challenge the ticket by mail. I ended up speaking with the judge. I said I was doing 93 in an 80, but then i praised their incredible roads.

She laughed. Had to pay the fee but no points. That’s all I wanted.

Was I speeding? I won’t answer that. I do not have anything that would lead to the arrest of Hillary Clinton, though.

By “running radar” I mean a unit that works as the police car is running down the road,.

Big deal - I shot a man in Reno just to watch him die.

On the Memphis highways they make a point of sitting on the side of the road and pointing the gun. I guess it’s more for show.

Ha, Last one I got was in Washington state in ‘87, passed a guy doing 50mph on the freeway, and of course when I went to pass he sped up to 60, I passed at 65, overhead airplane cop got me and a few miles later state patrol pulled me over for 65 in a 55 zone, cost me $60 back then.
