1919: Mehmed Kemal, for the Armenian genocide

Kemal Bey’s hanging in Bayezid Square occurred in the immediate aftermath of the Great War. Here, on its last legs, the remains of a sultanate splintered apart in the war instituted tribunals for wartime offenses by the Young Turks who had run the government during the war — a sop to the British occupying forces making worrying noises about international trials for much bigger fish.

Much testimony at the trial pointed to the governor’s fervor for massacres; an Armenian priest who survived the slaughter later wrote that a Turkish officer had told him that Kemal “made a vow on the honor of the Prophet: I shall not leave a single Armenian alive in the sanjak of Yozgat.”

Among all the world’s peoples, Turks have never been the victims of genocidal aggression; they as Turks have always been the perpetrators.

Battlefield defeats do not count as instances of Turkish victimhood.

The much admired founder of the modern Turkish republic, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, has on his hands the blood of millions of Armenians, Greeks, and Jews.

His current successor Recep Tayyip Erdogan is capable of far worse. Europeans, look to your borders and the advancing Turkish hordes.

Check this out: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Nemesis

One famous case was that of Soghomon Tehlirian, who assasinated Talaat Pasha (one of the "Young Turks") on the street in front of his house. He admitted as such in his trial and was promptly acquitted.

From Wikipedia:

When asked by the judge if he felt any sort of guilt, Tehlirian remarked, "I do not consider myself guilty because my conscience is clear…I have killed a man. But I am not a murderer."

The jury returned a verdict of not-guilty in a little over an hour. He is revered by Armenians as national hero.
