I get what the author is saying but I think his use of terminology is confused. “Liberal” used to mean something different from the Marxism that now is in the leftist mainstream. That is why many on the left shun the word “Liberal” and say they are “Progressives” (basically Marxists). Democrats have to all go with the totalitarian program - someone a little to the left and not a communist just isn’t tolerated. And yes, a communist system is “conservative” in the sense it resists change and Marxists fear the dynamism of a free society. But that is different from wanting to “conserve” institutions that help people live in ordered freedom. The author’s use of terms confuses things.

Who ever wrote this is dead from the neck up. The Civil War was started by Southern Democrats bent on preserving an economic system based on the use of slave labor. Conservatism didn't begin in the US until the 1930’s as opposition to the liberal socialism of The New Deal.

What the author is saying is: Don’t let the enemy have the high ground. There’s a company that I call Congressive Insurance because anyone who uses the legal name of said company is stuck in the 1930s, a decade when Fascists - not regressives or socialists, were in power in Germany, Russia, Italy and these united states.
