Exercising While Masked Can Be Deadly, So Why is Eric Garcetti Insisting Upon It? (Los Angeles order)
RedState ^ | May 14, 2020 | Jennifer Van Laar

Over the last 24 hours officials from both the City and County of Los Angeles announced that residents are required to wear masks whenever they’re outside of their homes, even while exercising, ignoring the fact that wearing a mask decreases the flow of air into the lungs, potentially causing serious injury or death.

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti announced his requirement first:

ConcernedCitizen @VeniceSynergy #LA #LosAngeles #Safe #Garcetti heard us - https://corona-virus.la/FaceCovering #WearYourMask #StaySafe #ProtectOthers #Covid19 #CoronaVirus #Masks4All #facemask

Los Angeles County officials and some mayors, including Santa Clarita’s Cameron Smyth, clarified that Garcetti’s requirement was only applicable within LA city limits. That exemption was short-lived: Los Angeles County issued their own mask requirement Thursday.

During the daily press briefing, Public Health Director Dr. Barbara Ferrer (not an M.D.; more about that later), said:

“Masks are, in fact, mandatory across the entire county when you’re outside of your home, not with members of your household and in any kind of contact with other people.”

Ferrer asserted that cloth face coverings are effective in preventing transmission of Wuhan flu, which conflicts with the conclusions reached by many other public health officials (who have earned their M.D. degree).

Many LA County residents rightfully asked what type of cloth mask is recommended for swimming, surfing, paddleboarding, etc. The reply: crickets.

Coincidentally, in news from Wuhan, last week 26-year-old Zhang Ping suffered a punctured lung caused by wearing a face mask while jogging and ended up in the hospital.

On Thursday evening, Mr Zhang started feeling breathless and slight chest pain just after he ran for 2.5 miles. He carried on jogging for a bit longer before eventually giving up and walking home. Mr Zhang’s family later rushed him to the hospital after the resident felt the pain exacerbating.

The doctors found that Mr Zhang’s left lung was punctured and shrunk by 90 percent. They believed the condition was caused by the high pressure in the man’s organ due to the fact that he carried out intense exercising while wearing a mask.

The jogger is now in stable condition after undergoing an operation, the hospital said in a social media post on Monday.

Zhang had followed the recommendation of physical therapists by attempting to build up his distance while wearing a mask, but still suffered this terrible consequence.

Mr Zhang started running about two weeks ago in the hope of improving his fitness after his hometown had been under a lockdown for more than two months, according to the Wuhan Central Hospital.

He initially jogged for three kilometres (1.86 miles) per day but increased the running distance to six kilometres (3.73 miles) after a week.

Experts say that there are some people who definitely should not wear a face mask while exercising, period.

“‘If you start to feel dizzy, imbalanced, or overly fatigued, stop. Be smart [and] don’t over do it. Someone that has an underlying respiratory condition that is on the more severe side will want to exercise indoors without a face mask,” he says, to ensure safety for themselves and others.’

“Examples of such conditions include asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD), bronchitis, cystic fibrosis, pulmonary fibrosis and any other conditions that affect the heart or lungs. If you have a cardiovascular or respiratory condition, it’s a good idea to ask your doctor about exercising with a face mask before attempting to do it. If you can’t go see your doctor right now, try calling or scheduling a telemedicine visit.”

Public pressure from Judgey McJudgersons played a role in Zhang’s decision to ignore his body’s warnings that he wasn’t getting enough oxygen:

[Zhang] insisted wearing a face mask during his exercise – despite occasionally feeling suffocating and uncomfortable – after seeing other joggers with face-coverings.

Because of the snitches, Zhang could have died. Those snitches were probably not aware that Dr Chen Baojun, a chief medic from the Wuhan hospital, recently “warned that people should avoid wearing face masks while exercising as the face-coverings could obstruct the circulation of oxygen” or that “education authorities in China…are set to ban school students from wearing face masks during PE lessons due to the health risks” because “at least three schoolboys recently died while taking their PE classes in China.

Clearly, people are responsible for knowing what types of exercise are safe for them and should be aware of the signals their bodies are sending and take the face mask off, but this case shows the negative power of public pressure. In addition, children aren’t sensitive enough to their body’s signals to know when to take them off and shouldn’t be placed in that dangerous situation. It borders on child abuse.

LA County’s Ferrer did mention during her comments Thursday that there are some people with underlying conditions who cannot safely wear a face mask and that people should be cognizant of that. But how are the McJudgersons to know which bare-faced scofflaws have underlying conditions? Are they supposed to carry identification cards or put some kind of mark on their foreheads?

No. The science doesn’t justify mandatory mask usage. Refuse to comply.

All the rules seem to say that you don’t need a mask if you are under age 2 or have a relevant health limitation.

Yet none of the goon cops seem to be allowing for the latter possibility. Even if someone claims such, they’re smacking them down without consideration.

Wear a mask reduces te flow of oxygen. Detrimental to health. I never wear one except to enter where mask is required.

There is no reason to wear a mask outdoors with social distance. None.

[The below is copy-pasted from another thread, but I feel it contains valuable information.]

It’s becoming more and more clear that Covid-19 spreads from either close, prolonged indoor contact, as with a family member or office worker, or in other closed spaces.

Big box stores like Home Depot, with 50-foot ceilings and open floor plans (just divided by shelves of products that are not walls) are more like being outdoors, where any exhaled infected aerosols are quickly dispersed to harmless levels.

This video is only 7 minutes, watch it all, particularly when they introduce ventilation to see how fast the micro droplets are dispersed. That comes at 5:40. (It’s all in English after the first subtitled minute.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vBvFkQizTT4&fbclid=IwAR2QYgdtnJ_zyuQQqe0_xQ4v9DLwmCuMAlxdk1jdZ5CZrNh-TNnA5H2di54

I found the video in this excellent essay:

COVID-19 Superspreader Events in 28 Countries: Critical Patterns and Lessons

https://quillette.com/2020/04/23/covid-19-superspreader-events-in-28-countries-critical-patterns-and-lessons/

I also highly recommend this one. The author wrote it after studying the above essay on super spreader events.

The Risks - Know Them - Avoid Them

https://www.erinbromage.com/post/the-risks-know-them-avoid-them

What I take away from the video and the 2 articles is that there is virtually no risk of being infected while outside unless you are in a really densely packed venue such as a crowded wedding or funeral for a good period of time with an infected carrier.

Inside, there is little risk in grocery stores, people are just not crowded together for a long period. I would worry about being infected by a beautician or barber who was an asymptomatic carrier. That gives you the time and proximity for a good chance to become infected. I’d only do it if both of us were wearing N-95 masks, not loose surgical masks with plenty of side leakage.

The biggest risk is in packed offices, like call centers, or in church with singing, etc. The Washington State choir practice super spreader event is very telling.

Or a nightclub, like the Austrian example from above, where an asymptomatic bartender infected a bunch of his customers. In a loud nightclub, you have to lean close to a bartender to be heard, and you are practically yelling at one another, expelling vastly more droplets than in normal conversation.

Another takeaway is that the risk of catching Covid-19 from touching a surface and then your face may be greatly overestimated. In all of the super spreader events, an infected carrier was in a tight, closed place breathing on his family, friends or coworkers. In the case of the Korean call center, microdroplets infected 90% of the people on his side of the call center floor, and none on the other.

The above 2 articles were very eye opening. I hope folks will watch the video and read them.

So we had an office baby shower party.

Everyone showed up with masks, 6 feet apart, etc.

Impossible to eat/drink...even with straws.

By the end, no one was wearing masks.

You can legally be exempt from mask laws.
Just tell them you have an underlying medical condition that prevents you from wearing a mask, and per HIPAA and ADA laws, you are not obligated to tell them what that condition is.
I printed out such a statement and keep it with me at all times.

From the article:

“The science doesn’t justify mandatory mask usage. Refuse to comply.”

Tell that to the non-service, non first responder companies making mask-wearing mandatory for their employees

My husband and I went to our Target and then to our Safeway last Saturday. Masks required. I felt faint for a half hour after we got home. I ONLY wear them where they are required, but I guess only going to one store at a time is also required.

Sounds like this needs to be Strictly Enforced in Police and Firestation GYMS All Across the County, when a few dozen cops and firemen drop dead from wearing their masks, maybe they will change their minds.

I noticed that in a Walmart supercenter, the ceilings were about 20 feet high. The place was crowded with chatting, loitering goons, and it felt like a tropical reptile exhibit building in a zoo (humid, stuffy). There’s no ventilation because of the company’s policy for keeping heating and cooling bills low, security (doors closed), etc. The place reeked of bad breath, perfume and B.O.

I never wear one except to enter where mask is required.

I haven't brought myself to do that yet. I did head over to Fresh Market, but when I got up to the door, the sign said that masks were required, so I turned around and haven't been back.

It just seems that if I put a mask on, I've accepted the goober mint premise on this whole thing
