The federal government gave more than $121 thousand in coronavirus relief money to the Jamestown Regional Medical Center, a hospital that has been closed since June 2019.
The Department of Health and Human Services says the hospital received $121,722 from its provider relief fund.
Records show the Rennova-owned hospital still owes $1.2 million in unpaid federal taxes.
Reports suggest that the hospital has been closed since June 13, 2019.
“It’s not fair for them to direct money to a hospital that has currently no real ability to re-open and provide adequate and safe patient care,” former Jamestown nurse Miah Elmore said.
“It’s disgusting in a way,” former Jamestown nurse Karen Cooper said. “There are hospitals and things that are seeing the COVID patients that could’ve utilized that money.”
After this news become viral the Department of Health and Human resources decided to give a statement. They said it will “force repayment,” but did not give any details.
“We will continue to review the data and information to ensure accurate and appropriate payment. Once HHS confirms that a provider has closed, we will initiate an action to force repayment without having to go through the audit process,” the statement said.
The spokesperson has not yet answered a follow-up question on how so-called “forced repayment” will work.
That’s what happens when there is little to no oversight coupled with a corrupt bureaucracy.
Out of the trillions of funny money, wouldn’t it be great if $120,000 was the extent of the misappropriation?
What kind of taxes? Income taxes? Payroll taxes? Medicare clawback?
