Joe Biden and Friedrich Nietzsche: How the “resounding tinkle of virtue” has poisoned our politics.
Journal of American Greatness ^ | June 20, 2020 | Roger Kimball

According to Joe Biden, the basement candidate for president, ending “systemic racism” in the United States is “the moral obligation of our time.”

Too late, Joe! Systemic racism in the United States ended with the Union victory in the Civil War. Robert E. Lee surrendered at Appomattox on April 9, 1865. On June 19 of that year, Union General Gordon Granger announced in Galveston, Texas, that all slaves in the state were free—Texas being that last state to comply with the Emancipation Proclamation. That is the date that the latest Kwanzaa-like manufactured racialist holiday, “Juneteenth,” is intended to celebrate and that Joe’s minders intended to capitalize on by writing “Juneteenth: A Reminder Of Black America’s Long-Fought Fight For Justice.”

The institution of slavery, which ended nearly 150 years ago, has no bearing—zero—on the plight of American blacks today. What does affect them, mightily, is the destruction of the black family...

snip...

And then there is the other side of the conviction that virtue is the exclusive prerogative of one’s own tribe: the impulse to judge and punish, the Robespierre expedient. “How they thirst to be hangmen!” Nietzsche noted.

Among them there are plenty of people disguised as judges seeking revenge. They always have the word “Justice” in their mouths, like poisonous saliva, with their mouths always pursed, constantly ready to spit at anything which does not look discontented and goes on its way in good spirits.

Nietzsche may not have the last word about the disgraceful parade of counterfeit virtue tearing at the fabric of American society today, but I think he makes an illuminating first foray. His is not an inquiry that you will see aired on CNN or in the pages of the New York Times, to say nothing of those rancid corridors of pseudo-intellectuality, the American university.

‘According to Joe Biden, the basement candidate for president, ending “systemic racism” in the United States is “the moral obligation of our time.”’

Does that mean the end of the Democratic Party Joe?

The Jim Crow laws and the vagrantcy laws were around long after the Civil War ended. The vagrantcy laws were designed to re-institute slavery. If a black man could not prove that he had a job, he would be placed into a prison to be used as slave labor. The bricks to rebuild Atlanta after the Civil War ended were made by black vagrantcy prisoners. Discrimination against blacks in the South still existed in the year 1958. Blacks were only allowed to work as janitors, cooks, and dishwashers. Whites were allowed to work in the mills and factories and move up in the ranks. Blacks were only allowed to stay down. 1958 is a long way past 1865. The Great Society of 1965 has done great evil to America. Most of the current black prison population is the result of the war on poverty and the father-less children that LBJ and Democrats created. Paying people to be irresponsible is never a good policy.

Leave it to Kimbal to bring two incongruous figures, Nietzsche and Biden, together. But he has done it. He squared the circle in some anomalous tryst of “Ah, come on, man” meets “God is Dead.”

Some of the comments at the site are interesting if you can stand all the pop-ups. Nietzsche is among the most respected philosophers by...Christians. It’s not that we particularly agree with much he says. He was brutally honest and laid out the issues in the starkest of terms. He really didn’t pretend that justice was anything but the will of the strong over the weak. Democrats understand this instinctively but don’t have the integrity to come out and say it. Maybe the best counter argument is Alyosha in the Brothers K.

The things that are happening now are promoting racism. Not contributing to the end of it.

The way that racism ends is when all people believe that their neighbors and fellow citizens, no matter what color, want the same things for their families and their nation. When people march, riot, destroy businesses, tear down statues, condemn the US, state they want to ‘transform’ or destroy America, and want people of other races (e.g. white) to apologize for things they as individuals have nothing to do with, the result will ultimately be distrust, and the development of new resentments and racism.

The answer to people like the Hollywood hollowheads who are pushing these memes is simple, and should be stated definitively:
NO, I don't have white privilege.
NO, I don't have white guilt.
NO, I'm not responsible for whatever racism still exists in society.
YES I want people of every race, color, and creed to be proud of themselves as individuals, to have happiness, to be safe, and to work hard as individuals to make the world a better place, for everyone.
YES, I believe no one should be denied any opportunity because of race, color, or creed, or gender.
YES, I believe we are all created equal under God.
YES, I abhor rogue police who target anyone, or who are racist, or who wield their power inappropriately.
But NO, I do not believe it is right to use the sins of others as an excuse to point fingers at all police, at all whites, or demand the restructuring or destruction of the greatest and fairest nation to have ever existed on Earth.

Sort of like Patriots Day or Bunker Hill Day in Massachusetts.

The PR surrounding Lyndon Johnson’s Great Society program told the world that its aim was to abolish poverty. It’s actual effect was to institutionalize poverty and promulgate an endless agenda of dependency, which all but guaranteed black subservience to the governmental overlord. It also institutionalized the gigantic network of government workers charged with servicing—and, by extension, perpetuating—the welfare state. The metabolism of this establishment was expertly anatomized by Christopher Caldwell in his latest book, The Age of Entitlement: America Since the Sixties. It makes for a mournful story.

A win - win for the Democrats. A permanently dependent class that votes reliably Democrat. And government employees though their union that also vote democrat.
