On MSNBC’s MTP Daily Tuesday afternoon, host Chuck Todd revealed that he is so deep in the tank for the Democratic Party that he can’t even credit President Trump for the historic Middle East peace deal achieved by his administration. Just moments after a White House signing ceremony finalizing the agreement had concluded, Todd whined about feeling “uncomfortable” about Trump’s accomplishment.
“You know, Peter, this deal is a bit uncomfortable for a lot of observers to watch because it seems so transactional, it’s as if pulling out of the Iran deal is what got these Gulf states on board to do this, you know, to then recognize it,” Todd complained to White House correspondent Peter Alexander. The anchor fretted: “It feels like there is a lot of quid pro quos involved in this, that it isn’t something larger than that.”

Yeah, that’s exactly what I look for in news analysis - just what exactly Chuck Todd’s ‘feelings’ on an issue might be. I’d sooner channel the Dude in “The Big Lebowski” to get a cogent analysis: the Dude, to Maude Lebowski: “This is a very complicated case, Maude. You know, a lotta ins, a lotta outs, a lotta what-have-yous. And, uh, a lotta strands to keep in my head, man. Lotta strands in old Duder’s head.”

Or a reasonable person would realize 'My lord that Iran deal was utterly blocking any chance at peace in the Middle East'. Chuck Todd instead says 'Peace in the middle east at the cost of Obama's Iran deal just seems like too high a price to pay'.

It’s pretty simple. The Gulf states feel threatened by Iran and are willing to side with Israel/U.S. But to do so they must, 72 years later, fully recognize Israel to sign a mutual defense pact. As a side benefit for Israel they gain leverage against Palestinian intransigence.

I think the Russia, Russia, Russia debacle convinced weak-minded fools that quid pro quos are illegal or improper. They aren't. It's just deal-making. The Gulf States get something. Israel gets something. This for That.
