Uninstall a tool bar (tech)
May 22, 2008

I install the new AVG 8.0 this morning and I now have an AVG tool bar. I don't want it.

With three computers here, I installed an AnalogX Netstat on my computer to monitor 'my' bandwidth usage. Since I installed the updated AVG, my Netstat shows nearly constant churning of BW usage. It didn't do that before I installed the newer version.

We are allocated 425 MB from Hughesnet(never get hughesnet by the way)

Any help would be appreciated.

Oh boy. I’ve been using AVG for years and love it. Haven’t upgraded to 8.0 yet but if they are gonna cram a toolbar on me and take up a bunch a bandwidth they weren’t before I’m gonna have to find another solution :(.

I cant get rid of my toolbar from 8.0 either. I use Mozilla. If its on the toolbar, it slows everything down. Bookmarking this thread..

Nope, not gonna say it. Wouldn't be prudent.

I got a message from them saying the 7.(I can't remember the version) was going to be out of date on May 31.

I hate the tool bar. The little roof on my Netstat house keeps blinking yellow. A sign bandwidth is being used.

Try going to "Add/Remove" in the control panel. Normally you will find you can remove the tool bar separately.

BTW...I replaced AVG some time ago with AVAST. You might want to take a took at it. They do have a free version.

I received a notice my AVG Free Edition would no longer be supported after May 31st. They wanted me to upgrade to 8.0.

Instead, I uninstalled it and went to Avast! which I have on an older PC. Now, my laptop runs smoother and boots faster. And there are no more messages about having to reboot after updates. I’ve used both applications for years, but AVG just seem to get bloated over time. I’m glad I made the switch.

That's it, thanks.

Can I uninstall this 8.0 version and reinstall the 7.5 one? Or just get rid of the darned tool bar to see if that gets rid of chewing my BW.

AVG was trying to get me to ‘upgrade’ to 8.0, so I went to Cnet.com and read some of the user reveiws — not all good by any means.

And with AVG 8.0, the email scanner is only free for 30 days, after that, they want your $. Time to switch to Avast.
