You get a big warning

Lucianne Site attack warning

This advisory blocks Lucianne.com because of a single link to a site that hosts malware. This isn't the first time this has occured to Lucianne.

This means that anyone posting go Free Republic that links to an infected server could cause Free Republic to be shutdown via Firefox Browser security settings.

Does Free Republic have the technology to check for malware hosted from every link we provide?

It all depends on your security settings. You can set Firefox to ignore this warning. Which is fine except when you come on a site that really is actively being used to create infections.

LOL!

Oh the irony!

That collection of randomly sensitive, double standard wheeling, capricious banners, and faux-con, rainbow warriors at Ldott are being censored unfairly!

Uhmmmm...delicious!

Lame, but my point is some Troll can use this against us.

This is a feature, not a bug. I am not turning it off. But, it seems to me.. that with only one incident needed to set this off, its a bit too sensitive and frankly, if someone wants to hurt us.. they need only link a malware site in any of these forums.

I was wondering if we had software that tests this as we are posting.

If it wasn't for bad links we'd have no links at all ;o)

Not "censored". It's a safety feature.

They merely have to clean up the link(s) / object(s) and wait for Google to scan the site.

Heh..

I remember not too long ago that a visit to Drudge made me have to reboot. Drudge’s site was infecting me with that “loop” spam where you click out of one thing and another pops up, click out of that and the first one pops back up, etc., for infinity.

Now that I have some basic security (McAfee and Spy Sweeper), I never have any problems. I even keep up to date with Microsoft Secutiry updates. A weekly scan with Ad-Aware and regular bleaching with WindowWasher and I’m good to go.

The point is, there are plenty of links provided here at FR that can give you adware and maybe even malware. And any link could easily be a click or two removed from a link that offers viruses, keyloggers, trojans, etc.

Well, lots and lots of browser foul-ups that I attributed to it. (I’m running IE). And I’ve gotten the ‘one click more will start to install malware’ feeling from a couple of their advertisements. (You know how it is, when a little box pops up, begging you to click here to check for problems on your computer.... ;), or when there’s a fake close box, trying to tempt you to click it )

Google should be so vigilant with other sites.

Just recently I’ve picked up malware from a site that claimed to have owners manuals and another tech site to download a utility.

First time in 10 years I’ve gotten any kind of infection.

You make a great point. I was making an observation. Why is that lame?

I get it.

I just found it ironic. The Ldott staff is well known for irrational, fickle, and random purges/bannings/blocking/censoring so this is very funny.
