I can’t stand Joker Joe. That being said, why shouldn’t he have option of adopting either type of dog. It’s no one else’s business and that certainly means the hypocritical PETA who kills animals.

Brown says she and Biden both received death threats from animal activists.

It'll be interesting to see if these nutballs threaten Obama similarly after he gets his (planned) purebred dog.

We need transparency on Dog-choosing but not eligibility to the position.

Doggone it Joe, trying to stimulate the economy buy doing business with a private business owner instead of going to your local government run pet dispensary....how dare you!

Dog breeders can definitely be strange and snobbish, but it never occurred to me that they were condemning animals to death. If I'm going to bring an animal in my house to become part of the family, I'd like to know where it came from, thank you.

“Brown faced backlash from pet lovers who thought the Bidens should have opted for a shelter over a breeder to find their new puppy.”

Oh, this is the last straw.

I am SO sick of these self-righteous “adopt-adopt-adopt” people in the last 20 years since Greyhound “rescues” cropped up. And then they act like KGB if you dare try to “adopt” 1 of these dogs of unknown origin. There is a tendency for a snobby attitude about these dogs needing more help than a puppy of known properties.

If anything, I’d’ve been on the woman for giving a dog to a jerk like that. I’d not want anything to do with a political hack.

I am involved in rescue as a foster home, but I honestly agree with you. It sometimes seems it may be easier to adopt a child than a dog from some of these rescues. They act like they want people to adopt, but they make it nearly impossible.

I know I’m painting with a broad brush, and not all are like that, but from stories here and elsewhere, it sure seems like too many like to think of themselves as saviors and thus, ironically, look down on anyone who gets a PUPPY from her BREEDER. Which is what AKC and all were telling us a few years back - “buy from a reputable breeder” (OK, I know, I have a few beefs with that, too).

All my kitties are former strays, my dog is a purebred Jack Russell Terrier. Adopt whatever critter you like, and may you both have many years of happiness together.

I have three dogs so far. I do try to rescue when I can, and two of my dogs are rescues. But my other dog I got as a pup from a reputable breeder, and I don’t regret that either. She is a gorgeous example of a Boxer. My husband wants a Great Dane when he gets home, and I have signed up for Great Dane rescue, but we may still go with a puppy from a breeder, because Danes can have some major issues when not bred properly.

Oh, my.

Hat tip to those who rescue unwanted dogs . . . but sometimes I swear the rescue organizations have a screw loose. It's like NOBODY is good enough to have one of 'their' dogs bestowed on them . . . nobody. Interviews, large deposits, home inspections, 20 page agreements that look like a major corporate construction contract . . . .

Thanks, I'll just buy from a good breeder. They do interviews too, although I've never had a home visit. They do check references. It helps if you belong to a reputable dog training club so that somebody can vouch for you.

And if you're going to be competing with your pup, then a purebred with the proper bloodlines is the only way to go. Of course, you're just playing the odds (there are plenty of Labs from excellent bloodlines who turn out just not to have enough 'retrieve' in them to play the field trial or hunt test games) but you're improving them substantially.
