NEW YORK (AP) — One trip for their Jack Russell terrier in a plane's cargo hold was enough to convince Alysa Binder and Dan Wiesel that owners needed a better option to get their pets from one city to another.

Could I buy a human-sized kennel and fly on this airline as a pet? It sounds like they get better treatment. Best of all, their kennel is their space; they don’t have some jackass in front tilt their seat back in your lap for the whole flight!

I guess I'm surprised that there's enough demand to let a business model like this work. But hey... if there is... they might just pull this off.

Since they don't carry human passengers, they're technically a cargo carrier. I wonder if that puts them in a different regulatory environment that gives some advantage?

LOL.

Of course, there could be a _pet_ jackass on the flight...

At least once, and often times twice a year, I drive from Louisiana to Pennsylvania to see my folks. The only reason I haven't flown is because I refuse to put my dogs in the cargo hold of an airliner.

I have been saying I would be happy to pay for a seat for my dog(in a kennel carrier). He is part of my family and does not deserve to be in a cargo hold. So, he doesn’t get to go if I fly somewhere. I have already signed up for this airline’s email alerts. It may actually affect my choice of vacation spots. lol
Personally, and I am a mom, there are times I think I would rather travel with a plane full of pets than one of children. And some adults.

I hear ya. I’m not a big fan of flying (commercially) and on my only commercial trip my luggage was lost. Ironically it was my carry on, which had to be stowed when we transferred to a smaller prop plane for the last couple legs of the trip. Imagine that happening to a pet...

I make the distinction about commercial airlines because when I was growing up, my dad had a small plane. Loved to go flying. We also had a little dachshund who’d go along for the ride. :-)

I think there is a demand— I hope enough that they’re able to succeed. A lot of folks like Joe 6-Pack out there. I know I wouldn’t fly my dogs in a cargo hold.

When I first heard of this, though, I thought it was an airline for pets and owners. While this is a definite improvement over cargo holds, I’d rather be with my pets. Shoot, the one often sits on the couch and chairs like a person. With the right dress and accessories, maybe I could pass her off as an elderly aunt...

p.s.— does your screen name happen to have any connection to a particular pizza establishment?

Not at all. Many of the earliest aviators were dogfighters.
